Johannes Brahms is one of the greatest composers and pianists in the German Romantic period,occupying a very important position in the history of classical music,and also has a tremendous impact on the development of piano art.Among Brahms' piano works,the application of the Intermezzo genre is only reflected in Op.10,Op.76,Op.116,Op.117,Op.118,and Op.119.The composition of them throughout Brahms' entire life.Op.117 is Brahms' most widely known work of Intermezzo genre,which is also Brahms' only work composed of three Intermezzi.This article combines the author's actual performance and derivative work of Brahms' Intermezzo Op.117,to analyze the characteristics of his music composition and the main points of his performance techniques.This article is divided into three chapters.The first chapter starts with the introduction of Brahms to explore the life and growth environment of the composer,as well as the characteristics of his composing style,so that the performers can grasp his performance style.Secondly,by pursuing the background of Intermezzo Op.117 and understanding the author's experience in composing this work,the performers can profoundly realize the emotions of the composer.Finally,by researching the musical characteristics of the work,the deep intension in the work is excavated,therefore the performers can improve their expression of musical connotation of the work.The second chapter consists of three sections,and studies the composition of the three Intermezzi respectively,by analyzing the musical form structure,melody,and accompaniment texture of each Intermezzo in detail to explore its characteristics of composing and style.The third chapter in-depth studies the performance techniques of Intermezzo Op.117,displaying performance requirements and technical main points from the aspects of melody performance,fingering selection,and pedal application.The author hopes that through the analysis of this work,it will not only help the performers better interpret this work,but also allow readers to enrich their comprehension and contact of Brahms' late piano works.
