Experimental Exploration Of Visual Graphics On The Subject Of "growth"

From September 7 to September 19,2016,Professor Klaus Hessel1,Dean of School of Visual Communication HfG Offenbach,was invited to the School of Fine Arts Nanjing Normal University to organize and instruct the workshop with the theme of "Let it grow".I was lucky enough to participate in it.Growth is the process of change,iteration and proliferation of everything changeable in a specific time and space.As the expression theme of visual communication design art,it tried hard to interpret the change and growth course of the author’s inward world with creative visual language through the understanding and deduction of the theme of "Let it grow".In this creative design process,the visual attention was made to look back at the colorful life in the past and at present,so as to find the spiritual life in the life course associated with the theme and show it by transforming it into creative symbols.At the very beginning,Professor Klaus Hesse requested that the works should be innovative.For example,there should be innovations in the design process or in the aspect of technical means.He encouraged everyone to make bold attempts to use new materials and asked us to use hand-painted innovation as much as possible to participation in design.After many times of practices,it was obvious that it could not fulfill the requirement of innovation on the theme of "Let it grow" through conventional means.I tried to innovate by changing tools and materials,so I started looking about for new tools and materials.By chance,I found a plotting toy called Cycloid Drawing Machine,which could continuously rotate and plot linear graphics,which was in line with my inward requirement to create graphics.With this unconventional design tool,I carried out the design of the "Let it grow" theme.This paper practices exploration from the design of the five discussion topics.The first section elaborates the origin of the "Let it grow" theme,and from the workshop with the theme of "Let it grow" to the topic of graduation project.The second section studies the form of "Let it grow".I observed the growth in the nature and life through in-depth understanding of the theme and summarized "The Mind Map".By chance,I found and chose "cycloid plotter" as a new tool material for graphic experiment of this topic,which provided the possibility for achieving satisfactory graphic design.The third section is about the graphic experiment of "Let it grow".I used cycloid plotter tool to carry out graphic experiment and designed relatively ideal visual image.In the fourth section,by combining with my own growing experience,I conducted expression and reprocessing for the basic graphics designed by cycloid plotter,and finally completed the design creation and application design of a series of works.The fifth section is about the application of visual graphics in the part of simulation "Let it grow" series,which was designed and displayed in three aspects,including lighting design,product interactive experience design and art education for teenagers.Finally,the importance of tool materials for innovative design of visual graphics is considered and summarized.
