Owing to the steady development of friendly relations between China and Romania as well as a gradual enhancement of China's comprehensive national strength,Romania's Chinese teaching cause is getting prosperous.This country's Chinese teaching points have been continuously expanded,the scale of Chinese teaching has been expanding,and the demand for Chinese teachers has also increased.I was fortunate to be a volunteer of Chinese language teachers at the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest(CIUB)in the Romanian capital.I used this chance to conduct research on the teaching of Chinese characters in the Confucius Institute,and formed a survey report about the Romanian Chinese characters Teaching,As an essential part of Chinese teaching,Chinese characters are a barrier in the process of Chinese learning for many foreign students.The Chinese characters in the plane-square-shaped structure are far from the Romanian ones belonging to the line-shaped phonetic characters.During the internship in Romania,I found that many local Chinese learners had difficulties in recognizing and writing Chinese characters.The teaching progress of Chinese characters in some teaching points was slow.Looking through the existing references,there are very few articles on Romanian Chinese teaching.Therefore,on the basis of fully collecting the relevant materials of Romanian Chinese teaching,I referred to other research articles on Chinese character teaching,and studied the Chinese character learning circumstances of the students,Chinese character teaching situation of teachers,the curriculum arrangement and hardware equipment situation of the Confucius Institute at Bucharest University.The investigation and analysis revealed the existing Chinese character teaching problems in CIUB.Combined with the actual situation of Romania's Chinese teaching,in order to provide some reference experience,some specific opinions and suggestions were given to the teaching of Chinese characters in Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest and even Romania.This paper consists of five parts;the concrete structure is as follows:The first chapter is the introduction,which includes the research background,the purpose and meaning of the topic,its innovation and deficiencies.I also summarized the existing materials on Chinese character teaching,which provided reference for the writing of following parts.The second chapter is an overview of Chinese teaching in Romania,which includes the history of the development of Romanian Chinese language teaching and the situation of Chinese teaching in the four Confucius Institute like the Confucius Institute at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu,the Confucius Institute at Babes-Bolyai University in CIuj-Napoca,the Confucius Institute of Transilvania University in Brasov and the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest,Among which the content about CIUB is the most important one.The third chapter is the survey design and results analysis on the teaching of Chinese characters in CIUB.Through questionnaires,interviews and observation records,I carried out investigation and analysis on the teachers and students,curriculum and teaching equipment of CIUB,and presented the problems of Chinese characters Teaching of it.The fourth chapter is about the analysis of the reasons for the Chinese characters Teaching problems in CIUB.For student,I analyzed from the perspectives of Chinese character specificity,the mentality of Chinese character learning,Chinese character learning time and methods.For teacher,I analyzed their expertise,attitude,and methods of Chinese character teaching.Finally,I analyzed its Chinese language curriculum settings,teaching facilities and the use of teaching resources in CIUB and the question types of HSK/YCT tests.The fifth chapter aims to giving suggestions for the teaching of Chinese characters in CIUB.The first is to help students use diversified methods to study Chinese characters,cultivate their interest in it and enhance the intensity and efficiency of Chinese characters learning.And then to change the teacher's attitude towards Chinese characters,improve their literacy of Chinese character,and adopt flexible and diverse Chinese character teaching methods.Next,the Confucius Institute need to formulate a scientific and reasonable Chinese language teaching syllabus and Chinese character teaching plan,adjust the Chinese curriculum,and update the Chinese character teaching equipment.Finally,the relevant examination organizations should modify question types of HSK/YCT,etc.As the first investigation report on Romanian Chinese character teaching,this paper has certain practicability and reference.However,there are still problems such as insufficient student survey samples,lack of interviews with Chinese and foreign directors of CIUB,and inadequate scientificity and rationality in questionnaire design,which needs further improvement and adjustment.
