Research On The Performance Technique Of Ragtime's Piano Music Works

Ragtime,known as “uneven beat”,is a kind of music with frequent syncopation and rhythm changes.It originated from black American music with a history of more than 100 years.Its characteristics are very unique.It combines the balanced double-beat bass rhythm background and syncopation to create the high melody of the transfer of metronomic stress.Now there is nothing to be done to trace the very Ragtime’s original performers.However,Ragtime was popular at first in the area along the Mississippi River and the East Coast.Its earliest form was the accompaniment of Rag Dance and Piano Music to entertain guests in bars,casinos and other places of entertainment.Ragtime Music not only is originated from black music,but also reflects the struggle of black people in American society.It is closely related to African American black culture.“The Negroes Like Me” was published in 1986.It was the first Ragtime musical work.Later,William Kyle and Tom Typing wrote Mississippi Rag and Harlem Rag respectively,which attracted more and more composers to try to write ragtime music.In 1899 and 1900,a large quantity of music named “Ragtime” were published,and since then Ragtime Music had become popular.Ragtime Music embraces the characteristics of simplicity,humor,lightness and liveliness.In the Ragtime era,a large number of outstanding Ragtime composers emerged,which made great contributions to enriching and promoting the development of Ragtime music,such as Scott Joplin,James Scott,and Joseph Lambert.Among them,Scott Joplin,who wrote a large number of works featured with Ragtime Music,was praised as the “King of Ragtime” by later generations.This article elaborates the artistic characteristics and development of Ragtime Music from the following three parts.The first part is an overview of Ragtime’s Music,including its origin,its heyday,Ragtime’s piano music composer and so on.The second part introduces the characteristics of Ragtime Music from melody,rhythm,tonality and harmony and musical structure.The third part analyzes the playing techniques of Ragtime’s music works from the following aspects: key touching method,syncopated rhythm,improvisation,octave playing,the relationship between left-hand bass and chords,and the application of pedals,so as to guide the performers how to play Ragtime well.
