The project for high-level mainstay talents in minority is a national education policy that lays a foundation for cultivating high-level mainstay talents in minority,who have upper scientific humanistic quality and innovation ability,firmly advocate the leadership of the Party and the socialist system,stably safeguard national unity and national unity,take delight in dedicating themselves to the development of the western region in China and minority regions.This program,implemented since 2006,has cultivated a large number of high-quality talents for minority area.In accordance with the requirement of program,students from minority area failing to reach national admission line of postgraduate qualifying examination have to be cultivated in training base for one-year basic intensive training before accepting normal postgraduate education.According to requirement of country,besides English course,it should include at least 7 courses.Under the background of international education,nowadays,the requirement to English level of postgraduates is increasingly higher in academic circles.Students should have high English capacity to read plenty of academic literature of foreign language and to conduct academic communication with foreign experts and scholars.As for minority students who register for"High Level Minority Talents Program",English is the weakest among all subjects for most of them.Many students only have the ability to deal with English test,while for the application of English ability,such as reading English literature,oral English communication and etc,they always fail to do that.Therefore,English course in training period is of vital importance for those students.This paper,taking current teaching conditions of English course in basic training base of M university as research target,makes a deep investigation on postgraduates of the program who is reading or have graduated through questionnaire.The content of investigation includes:students'basic information,English learning conditions,degree of satisfaction and suggestion for English teaching.Through analyzing survey data,the research result demonstrates that as for English course teaching for minority core postgraduates of the program,there are following problems:subjectively:first,students lack of interest and learning motivation;second,teachers pay a little attention to it and the interactivity between teachers and students are weak.Objectively:first,source of students is disperse and English foundation is uneven;second,the policy from relevant authorities is incomplete and there is loophole in management;third,there are shortages in curriculum setting and adaptation of textbook is terrible;forth,assessment system of English course is incomplete.Aimed at these problems of English course teaching in training base,the research proposes the following measures and advice for reference:first,increase the input of faculty and establish harmonious relations between teachers and students;second,strengthen teaching management and improve teaching quality;third,conduct reasonable innovation and improve curriculum setting;forth,optimize assessment system and carry out elimination system.
