Vocabulary is the basis of English learning,and the size of vocabulary directly affects senior high school students' the listening,speaking,reading and writing ability.However,English vocabulary teaching methods directly affect students' vocabulary learning strategies and the size of vocabulary.Due to the backward teaching methods and the students' weak language foundation,the effectiveness of English vocabulary teaching in minority areas of China still needs to be improved.In senior high school English teaching,most students lack effective vocabulary learning strategies,vocabulary has become an obstacle for them to learn English well.How to improve the minority high students' vocabulary learning effect deserves attention.As a learning strategy and a tool for association,mind map plays a unique role in arousing students' curiosity,developing their imagination and improving their memory.The study explores the application effect of mind map into English vocabulary teaching in a minority senior high school,and mainly answers the following questions:(1)How is mind map helpful for minority high school students to form English vocabulary learning strategies?(2)How could the application of mind map to English vocabulary teaching help to enlarge the minority high school students' vocabulary size?In this study,the author carried out the quasi-experimental study with 118 minority students from two classes of senior one of Yunnan Minzu High School in Kunming City,Yunnan Province,along with questionnaire,English vocabulary test and interview to collect data.The author conducted pre-questionnaire survey and vocabulary pre-test for two experimental classes,and introduced the concept and drawing of mind map and related teaching requirements to the experimental class.After two months of mind map vocabulary teaching,the author conducted a post-questionnaire survey and vocabulary test in two experimental classes,and aninterview was used to further explore the students' use of English vocabulary strategies.SPSS 20.0 software was used to analyze the data collected by descriptive analysis and paired sample t-test,combined with interviews and surveys,the results show that:(1)Students generally have a positive attitude towards mind map.They respond that the teaching of mind map can stimulate the formation of English vocabulary strategy.(2)After the mind map experiment,the scores of English vocabulary test in the two experimental classes are significantly improved.The mean score of the two classes before the experiment is 38.96,and the mean score of the two classes after the experiment is 44.82.Based on this,the paper puts forward the Enlightenment of mind map applied to English vocabulary teaching.
