| This paper compares Yu Hua’s and Su Tong’s novel creation in four parts: theme, character image, narrative art and novel view.Chapter 1: Thematic comparison. This chapter is mainly discussed in three sections: growth, sex and death. In the section of the theme of "growth",through the comparative analysis of their growing experiences, the author shows the origin of their loneliness consciousness, and that this loneliness consciousness occurs in the novel, which shapes a large number of children and adolescents growing up in loneliness and marginality. For Yu Hua and Su Tong, loneliness is not only a reflection, but also a writing attitude.Under the influence of this loneliness consciousness, the children’s images in their novels basically lose their naivety, which is incompatible with their growing environment and generally have no bright future. As for the writing of growth,Yu Hua mainly calls for the warmth of human nature with the sense of "abandonment" of growth, while Su Tong maps the disorder of reality with the alienation of growth. The theme section of "Sex" mainly carries on the comparative analysis from several dimensions such as "love","sex" and "reality".Both of them reduced love to life emotion, and reflected the impetuosity and hypocrisy of contemporary civilization with the sex representing desire. The comparison of the theme of "death" mainly applies Heidegger,Camus and Sartre’s existentialist philosophy. Both of them think that life and death are absurd, and their absurdity is mainly embodied in chance, impermanence and fate. The difference is that Yu Hua finds a way out of death, that is,life can be "regenerated" through the form of transfer;Su Tong seems to have never found it,and can only present life as nihility through death.Chapter 2: Character comparison. This chapter mainly compares the three characters of runaway, insane and revenger.Yu Hua and Su Tong usually portray the image of the runaway in the way of spiritual symbols. They escape from the spiritual predicament to express the loss and suspicion of their living conditions. The difference is that Su Tong describes a passive escape-escape.In the section on the image of the madman,Foucault’s theory in Madness and Civilization is mainly used to discuss the era metaphor of madness and the relationship between madness and human nature, morality and ethics. In Yu Hua’s view, insanity is not only a distortion and alienation of human nature, but also a metaphor of the history and culture of alienation.Su Tong created a large number of images of madmen in "Toona Street" and "Fengyangshu Township".His potential attempt is to find a balance between falsehood and reality, disorder and civilization. There are obvious differences between the images of revengers in Yu Hua’s and Su Tong’s novels. The former is integrated into violent writing to reflect the ugliness of reality and to testify the essence of the world. The revengers who bear "pain and fear" in the latter’s novels are also the humblers of life.Chapter three: A comparison of narrative art. This chapter mainly compares zero narrative, dialectical narrative and synaesthesia narrative.Zero narrative is a very important narrative strategy in avant-garde fiction. Its narrative characteristics include "critical sense","language violence","indifferent narrative" and "narrative trap".Yu Hua and Su Tong mainly conceal the narrator’s "I" and adopt a neutral narrative stand of "value mode"."Dialectical" narrative expounds that there are dialectical phenomena of simplification and complexity in both their works, such assimplification in language and narrative form, and complexity in structure, scene and perspective.Synaesthesia narrative uses Hegel’s theory of "music" and "painting" in Aesthetics, and combines Yuhua’s and Su Tong’s creative inspiration from music and images respectively, compares and analyses how to involve art in literary narrative.Chapter Four: Comparison of Novel Views. This chapter mainly discusses their novel views from two dimensions of reality and spirit.Yu Hua is a writer with strong realistic appeal, and the way of expressing realistic appeal will change according to the change of social environment.Su Tong seldom writes for the realistic demands. In his view, literature is literary art at all.In the spirit of the novel, they are similar to many writers in the 1950 s and 1960 s.They unconsciously go to their hometown to find their spiritual roots.Writing is to go home, which is the best summary of their novel spirit. |
