On Anselm's "Faith Seeking Understanding"

To deal with the internal conflict of theology and dialectic is the question of the relation between Christian faith and reason at Anselm's time,which was to deal with the external conflict of Christianity and Greek philosophy at the time of antiquity.Anselm's response to this question is faith seeking understanding,which means the love to God seeks to understand the theology propositions by means of dialectic.With reason associated to the use of dialectic and then taking it as a link between God and man,Anselm proved the validity of dialectic as a tool in interpreting the Christian doctrine.And by restoring the Christian theology tradition that based on Platonism,at the same time adopting Aristotelian logic to interpret it,faith seeking understanding enabled the convergence of Aristotelianism and Christian theology.Faith seeking understanding then shaped the development of Scholasticism.First,it inspired the scholastics as Aquinas to understand and interpret the Christian doctrine by Aristotelianism,which allowed it entering the Christian theology that based on Platonism.Second,it represented the position of realism in the problem of universals,and with the extreme realism transformed into moderate realism,then led to the demarcation between faith and reason.
