Tillich Reason And Faith In The Philosophy Of Religion

Paul Tillich,one of the most representative thinkers in the contemporary religion philosophy, is well known as a great master of contemporary theology. His religion philosophy, extensive and profound, logical and insightful, rich in content, will be of great value for the study of philosophy theory. Tillich's thoughts on Ontological Reason and religion which aimed at ultimate concern have become one of the most influencial religion philosophy theology,so the study of his thoughts will be great value on theory and learning.However,the relation of ration and religion in the religion philosophy system ,as the rudimentary key,the primary conflict,and the radical strain, haven't been attached enough importance.Whereas,the text try to hackle the relation of ration and religion by the numbers, particularly anatomize its station and function in the whole religion philosophy system,then generally review its thoughts'value of the theory and practice.The text is mainly made up of four parts:For the first part,it is about the hackle and exploration of the main content on Tillich' Ontological Reason. Tillich supposed that the meaning of the word "ration" was ambiguous or unstrict, ad referendum. He would rationally divided into kinds: ontology rational and irrational technology,and pointed out that contemporary society exists a rational technology to replace rational ontology serious risk. To that end, he detailed analysis of the reality of the existence of three rational inherent conflict: rational self-discipline and his legal rational confrontation, the absolute and relative of the confrontation, formalism and feelings of the other, In his view, these three are in the opposition is rational, relying on their own rational difficult to overcome. Subject the three contradictions to reconciliation, we must appeals to enlightenment.In the second part,it is mainly on the belief of Tillich. First of all, linking religion to the ultimate concern is one major contribution of religion philosophy. He believes that the essence of religious belief is ultimate concern. Secondly, he analyze the relationship of the courage of existence, the overall character and the faith to explore the tremendous role of the faith as the driving force . Following the analysis of the "What is faith", the analysis of "What is not faith" was carried out, a correction of the various understandings on the belief.The third part is about the system and profound analysis of the relationship between reason and faith. On the one hand,Tillich believe that reason is the premise of faith , it is becouse only sensible people have the ultimate concern, and some destruction of rational belief is the destruction of humanity itself and faith itself. On the other hand, faith is the transcension and realization of reason. Reason is grasped and is driven by the belief, beyond their own and can be realized. After expounding his basic viewpoints,he concretely analysed specific performances about the relationship between the two from four areas. Finally, it is to reveal the relationship between reason and faith by the analysis of the content of the in-depth of belief truth.In the fouth part ,it is about the theoretical value and practical significance of Tillich'reason and religion . For its theoretical value, the analysis of the relationship between reason and faith highlights the ontological significance of faith .On the other hand, he defined faith as "ultimate concern" ,and found out a unified theoretical foundation in the religion, philosophy, science, art this four major areas. As to its practical significance,it provides a theological way for the Western society from cultural crisis, on the other hand,his thoughts also provides a abundant theoretical resources for our country's current crisis of belief in our society.
