"2017 Ivanka World Women's Conference Speech" Interpretation Practice Report

The corpus for this simulation interpreting practice is Ivanka’s speech at the World Conference on Women on November 3,2017 in Japan.This speech focuses on the awareness of women’s role,aiming at encouraging women to balance work and family.It also appeals to governments and related enterprises to provide policies for making changes to respect women.This thesis combines the writer’s interpreting recordings with note-taking.Meanwhile,under the guidance of the interpretive theory,the writer summarizes the problems encountered in consecutive interpretations,namely,listening comprehension,the complex structure of a source language and the problem of language output.Then the corresponding strategies are proposed for improving interpreting quality by means of fuzzy language,division,combination,addition and omission.It is hoped that this thesis can provide some experience and references for interpreters.In addition,it can also accumulate experience and feasible strategies for the writer’s future interpretation work.
