Claude Simon is one of the representatives of the French Nouveau Roman.His literary works are recognized by the critics for his deep understanding of "time" and the exploration of novel writing techniques.As an important writer of the Postmodernism,Simon's exploration of techniques of novel writing is also pioneering and experimental.The stream of consciousness literature had a profound impact on him.His novel‘s structure was based on psychological time and he painted a colorful painting using the mixing of thoughts,memories,dreams,reality,etc."La Route des Flandres" is one of Simon's most famous works.It was nominated for "Le Prix Goncourt",but was criticized for the difficulty to understand.This novel focuses on the feelings of people in the war.Its baroque structure,delicate descriptions,rich colors,broken and fuzzy plots all make the whole work fascinating.This paper analyzes the complex theme,the narrative technique and the unique structure of the "La Route des Flandres" in the context of postmodern absurdity through textual perusal.The paper consists of an introduction,a body and a conclusion.The introduction part briefly describes the background of the topic and systematically analysis the research status at home and abroad.The main body is divided into four chapters,specifically analyzing the absurdity of the "La Route des Flandres".The first chapter explains what is "absurdity",compares the difference between postmodern absurdity and modern absurdity and analyzes the source of Simon's style.The second chapter analyzes the absurdity of the theme from the four perspectives of sex,desperation,death and meaningless.The third chapter mainly discusses the absurdity of its irregular narrative technique.The fourth chapter focus on its structural mode,and specifically reveals Simon's unique understanding of time and space.The conclusion briefly summarizes the characteristics of Simon's novel and explores the meanings of post-modern literature to reality.
