| Wang Anyi is a contemporary Chinese female writer.Since she started to devote herself to literary creation in the mid 1970s,she has been working hard and earnestly to create a series of masterpieces and has won numerous important domestic and foreign literature awards. As Wang Anyi’s most famous masterpiece,The song of Everlasting Sorrow not only lays solid foundation for her to become a prestigious writer in the contemporary Chinese literary world, but also opens up a broad avenue for her journey to French literature. This thesis chooses the translated version of The song of Everlasting Sorrow translated by two French translators Yvonne Andre and Stephane Leveque as the object of research, attempting to compare and analyze how it presents the original style. It is expected to discuss translator’s efforts to achieve the translation effect of"unity of form and spirit" and is also hoped to start thoughts of "going out" for Chinese contemporary literature. This thesis begins with Fu Lei’s theory of "similarity in spirit" and combines with relevant translation theories such as Liu Miqing’s style translation to conduct a detailed study and analysis of the original work and the French translated version.Firstly,it will generalize Wang Anyi’s creation style and the style of The song of Everlasting Sorrow and introduce the dissemination and influence of the only French translated version of The song of Everlasting Sorrow in France and translator’s related situation.Secondly, from the perspective of translation of names of characters, the translation of articles and the translation of the adjectives in translated version,it will briefly discuss what attitude this translated version has adopted and which translation method it has taken to deal with the cultural differences.Thirdly, this thesis will examine the methods and effects of the translators’ style reproduction of The song of Everlasting Sorrow from the perspective of narrative technique, rhetoric and rhythm.Besides,it will take the translation of folk customs and cultural beliefscontained in the original works as an entry point, aiming to summarize and analyze various factors that affect the reproduction of style in literary translation. Finally, this thesis is concluded that the style of a work or a writer can be seen in "forms" and reproduced in translation through certain means;the responsibility of translation lies not only in the transmission of "spirit",but also in keeping "form" as far as possible. |
