Study On The Vocabulary Of "Feng Yue Meng"

As a popular fiction written in late Qing Dynasty,Fengyue Meng has defined linguistic data,reliable texts,common language strong tongue sense and regionalism,moderate length and abundant contents.For this reason,to select it as the research object contributes to solving the problem of integrating difficult words,perfecting dialect words and colloquial words,and characteristic cultural words in wordbooks,and then providing reference for researching Yangzhou folk culture.Based on word checking and interpretation,this article makes the idea of language inheritance and development throughout the text.Meanwhile,focusing on the integrity and according to the features of monograph,it starts with the inheritance words,new words,foreign words,dialect words and colloquial words and cultural words so as to highlight the research on characteristic literature language elements and comprehensively present the words in Fengyue Meng from multiple aspects.The major word features of Fengyue Meng include:combined wording of classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese;abundant corpus of dialect words and colloquial words;diversified cultural words that full of local and era characteristics;universe polysemy phenomenon with mature system.Apart from inheriting ancient words in previous dynasties,Fengyue Meng records many new words,particularly those created by absorbing from dialects and colloquial words.The derivation of these new words has some similarities with the word building of standard Chinese,which also embodies dialect features.The foreign words in Fengyue Meng mainly originate from Buddhism and other nationalities,while only a few come from western world due to the limitation of contents and influence of time of introducing foreign words.From the perspectives of extending the meaning,grammar influence,change of emotional coloring and word meaning containment,this article explores the semantic change of dialects and colloquial words in Fengyue Meng.Besides,it emphatically checks and interprets the dialects and colloquial words difficult to be explained with strong characteristics.In this article,the cultural words with era characteristics and local features in Fengyue Meng are specially studied,so that some words about courtesan industry and names of ancient streets are sorted out.All these manifest the text features of Fengyue Meng and show the city style of Yangzhou in middle and late Qing Dynasty,which are conducive to the research on Yangzhou historical culture.
