The first element of second language learners’ use of target language to communicate is vocabulary.Learners have mastered some of the target language vocabulary and can simply communicate.This shows that the status of vocabulary in second language teaching cannot be underestimated.Second language learners generally acquire a second language in the classroom.The textbook is an important medium for second language acquisition.The importance of the vocabulary in the textbook is self-evident.Therefore,the study of vocabulary in textbooks deserves attention.This article has selected a set of more representative Chinese textbooks for foreigners from both sides of the Taiwan Straits-Taiwan’s "New Edition of Practical Audio-visual Chinese"(abbreviated as "Chinese")and Mainland China’s "Basic Tutorial for Experiencing Chinese"(abbreviated as "Experience")conducted a comparative examination of the primary vocabulary of the two sets of textbooks.The content of the dissertation is divided into six parts.The introduction part mainly introduces the reasons for the selected topic,research objects,research status and research methods.Secondly,two sets of textbooks were selected from two primary textbooks,vocabulary compilation styles,and vocabulary exercises.Then they came to conclusions and put forward corresponding suggestions.Finally,they described the deficiencies in the research.This study compared and analyzed the selection,compilation,and practice of the two sets of textbook vocabulary,and found that the vocabulary selection of "Chinese" and "Experiencing" reflects the law of gradual teaching and has its own regional characteristics;in terms of the preparation,"Chinese" There are examples of new words to demonstrate learning aids.“Experience” uses pictures to display vocabulary and is clear and intuitive.In terms of vocabulary exercises,“Chinese” is more flexible and “Experience” is more stable.Based on these characteristics,the author proposes that the two sides of the strait jointly develop the vocabulary outline of the teaching materials and draw lessons from the advantages of the two sets of textbook vocabulary compilations,which will help the arrangement and design of vocabulary for the primary textbooks for foreigners on both sides of the Straits.
