Research On The Historical Documents Of The Shanghai Art Design Exhibition

The articles focuses on the historic event of the design exhibition held by Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts in Daxin Company in 1937.In research,I take a small amount of documents as a clue,including reports in Shenbao Newspaper,design drawings in The Young Companion and design patterns in The Arts and Life Pictorial.According to the development process of industry and commerce in Shanghai in the 1930 s,I conclude that the design teaching in Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts was adapted to the further differentiation and expansion of industry and commerce driven by the prosperity of Shanghai’s trade in the 1930 s,and also to the historical situation of various types of industrial agglomerations and high city economic efficiency.The design industry had derived,and the situation made Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts according to the social industry and the market to provide education which was aimed at promoting the development of national industry and commerce,besides beautifying the daily life of the public.Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts held the exhibition on purpose to promote the teaching results of the patterns to the community and the general public,actively guide the industrial restructuring of industrial and commercial sectors and make achievements to beautify the daily life of the public.The exhibition was very important because it set formal design standards for social industry and commerce,besides output design values to the public by mean of culture spreading functions of the exhibition.The design teaching of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts made a model for integrating with the society at an early stage of design education in China.
