In recent years,the society’s attention to the key visual design of the graduation works exhibition is unprecedentedly high.The domestic and foreign media use the comparison of the key visual of the graduation works exhibition to measure the difference of the design level between colleges and universities in various countries,and even the gap has become the norm.Colleges and universities use the creation of the key visual of the graduation exhibition to show brand-new methods of the visual design,international design thinking and cutting-edge design concepts,so as to promote the dissemination and exchange of China’s design culture at home and abroad.Therefore,it is urgent to study it,see the development and trend of China’s design culture and visual design culture from a small perspective,go back to history,reflect and summarize,provide meaningful guidance for the better practice of graduation exhibitors’ visual design.This paper mainly studies the key visual design of graduation works exhibition of undergraduate design majors in Colleges and universities in China from 2012 to 2021.Firstly,it analyzes and summarizes relevant monographs and documents at home and abroad by means of investigation and literature analysis,and clarifies the concepts and values of three core theories:Graduation Design exhibition,key visual design and key visual design of graduation design exhibition,and found that the exhibition theme plays a decisive and guiding role in the design of the key visual of the graduation works exhibition.The third chapter studies the characteristics and changes of the theme text of the key visual design of the graduation works exhibition from2012 to 2021 with the method of comparative analysis,and comes to the conclusion that in the past 10 years,the theme text of the graduation works exhibition has experienced a great change from "focusing on students’ youth and growth" to "focusing on social care and innovation" to "focusing on social humanistic care and crisis",reflecting that colleges and universities pay more and more attention to the socialization of design discipline,take serving the society as its own responsibility.Based on the in-depth understanding of the exhibition theme,the fourth chapter analyzes the practice of the key visual design of the graduation works exhibition in Colleges and universities from the perspective of visual language,then summarizes the changes and innovations in the color,graphics,composition and visual expression in the past decade,to get a glimpse of the development and changes of China’s design education and visual design culture in the past decade,and explore the historical,social and cultural roots reflected behind this change,take history as a mirror,predict and guide the sustainable development of China’s visual design in the future.The fifth chapter analyzes and considers the practice of the key visual design of the graduation works exhibition of three colleges including Jingdezhen Ceramic University,Nanjing University of the Arts,and Central Academy of Fine Arts,and draws the following conclusions:First,in the era of calling for individuality and identity recognition,the design of the key visual of the graduation works exhibition should focus on the universities themselves,show their characteristics and present the unique design style,to enhance the brand image of the university design discipline.Secondly,under the background of the community of shared future,colleges and universities are required to pay attention to the changes of the current social environment,respond to the observation of social changes by the visual design of the graduation works exhibition,make the key visual design become a visual integrated design including the observation of social culture,humanistic history and spatial environment,and become a platform for paying attention to the society cultural context and transmitting social values in the contemporary context.Third,the design of the key vision of the graduation exhibition is required to face the future development of the design discipline,create the key vision that exceeds the social needs and the expectations of the audience,realize the real innovative value,create open and innovative visual forms from the perspective of future explorers,explore the possibility of visual design,and create the unknown and desired visual experience of the audience.Under the background of the changing media environment,the continuous renewal of digital technology and the diversification of design trends,the competition to show the design strength of universities and the design level of the country with the key visual design of graduation exhibition will become more and more fierce.Each university has the responsibility and obligation to present the innovative visual design facing the international and modern frontier,so as to promote the progress of design,transmit the design value and stimulate the vigorous development of design discipline.
