Analysis On The Translation Strategy Of Applied Translation-engineering Translation Practice Report

With the development of globalization,there are more and more exchanges between different countries in various fields,therefore,the applied translation,which has the function of information transferring,has become an important part of Translation.However,how to do it well?A lot of translators have provided effective methods and techniques which are based on an extensive practices and experiences in the applied translation and which are very helpful for translators.This report tries to analyze how to do the applied translation,in the hope of inspiring practitioners in applied translation.This report is about a translation practice,in which the process of translation and the completion of the task are presented and analyzed.As a research base,two texts with high similarity are selected,respectively in the field of road construction and that of nuclear engineering.The two texts have the same characteristics in that they both belong to the combination of technical translation and law translation,thus the two texts are very representative,which are valued for the study.The report consists of four parts:description of the whole project,preparation and process of translation,analysis of the requirements and strategies of applied translation,as well as the summary and the reflection in the last part.The first chapter presents the translation project in detail,including its background,content and nature of texts.This part aims to make readers have an overall understanding of the entire translation project.The second chapter describes the specific process of the project,including the preparation and specific translation process.Before translating,a lot of preparation work should be done,such as information searching,the establishment of the glossary.Adequate preparation is to ensure the quality of translation.During the translation,the two key points are comprehension and expression.In addition,the translator cannot ignore the job division and proofreading work,which are also an important part of the translation project.The third chapter starts with applied translation as key words,in this part,the requirements and strategies of the applied translation are analyzed.Applied translation,is the translation of practical texts.Unlike literary translation,applied translation has a high pragmatic function,and thus its standards and requirements differ from literary translation.In this report,a large number of examples are selected and analyzed.based on functional translation theories,the analysis consists mainly of four points:stylistic features of translation text,selection of words,translation of terms,translation of charts,with which the author tries to summarize some useful strategies for applied translation.The final chapter is dedicated to the summary:in the applied translation,the translator should pay more attention to the function of the text,for the main object of this kind of translation is to convey information.Therefore,sentences,words,as well as nature of the words should be all adopted and conversed.Meanwhile,in the last part,some experience and thinking drawn from this translation practice are explained,as well as some implications of the translation practice for future translation work.All serious translators are in pursuit of perfect translation.However,what kind of translation can be called perfect?The most basic standard "faithful" can always be applied to all translations.Meanwhile,the word "faithful" may have different interpretations in accordance with different texts,thus,translators need to make translation strategies in a fexible way according to different requirements of texts.
