The report is based on the translation project of The Climate Crisis: South African and Global Democratic Eco-Socialist Alternatives(Chapter 7&8).Co-authored by 14 experts and scholars in politics, economics, sociology and environmental science from the South Africa, the book provides an in-depth analysis of the causes of the global climate crisis and some solutions of high practical value. The book hasn't been translated into Chinese so far,so its translation might be inspiring and instructive to policy makers in ecological and environmental areas. Therefore, the author, together with three other translators, decided to translate the book into Chinese. In translation studies, the guiding significance of Skopos theory in applied translation has drawn wide concern from experts and scholars at home and abroad.Under the guidance of Skopos theory and its three principles, the project tries to illustrate the application of the three principles in applied translation through case studies of translation of words and of sentences. At the lexical level, the author determines the meaning of words according to the context where they appear and applies methods including using Chinese idioms, annotation, interpretation and the conversion of the part of speech. At the syntactic level, the translator adopts strategies such as cut-off,inversion and reorganization to ensure that the translation not only conveys information accurately but also is easy to understand.Through the translation program, the translator has taken the translation theory and skills into practice. The translator also accumulated some experience in translation, which laid the foundation for her future translation work, especially for the applied translation. In addition, the translator hopes that the report can provide some useful advice for other translators in the related fields.
