English study being a third language study after native language and Chinese studies,Xinjiang students in minority preparatory classes usually have poor English language abilities.Students will continue their undergraduate study after two-year preparatory classes.To enable these students from zero beginners' level to relevant college English level in two-year preparatory classes is an urgent issue that should be taken into consideration.This study targets the Xinjiang students who take two-year minority preparatory classes,investigating the current situation of English study in Xinjiang preparatory classes.Exploring the problems in Xinjiang preparatory classes through empirical inquiry,this research also analyzes what affects their English study,and then makes some targeted suggestions.Firstly,the research introduces the social-culture and English education background of the Xinjiang students briefly,obtaining a whole picture of the exterior environment of the educational policy and the implementation of English education in Xinjiang province.Then by questionnaire survey,the data of English learning of minority preparatory classes for Xinjiang students are collected and their motivation,strategies,difficulties,anxiety and autonomy in English study are analyzed thus their problems in English study are revealed.The cultural factors,education factors and individual factors for English learning are mainly discussed in the thesis.To be specific,the cultural influencing factors include differences of culture backgrounds and language transfer;education factors include teachers,teaching methods,teaching materials,curriculum provision,language environments;and individual factors include learning attribution,self-efficiency,learning adaptability,learning tasks,etc.Finally,some corresponding suggestions are put forward on emotion inspiring,learning strategies using,teaching methods innovation and teaching materials enriching in order to improve the English learning of the minority preparatory classes for Xinjiang students.
