Objective:This study is to discover the clinical efficacy and security of the acupoint embedding for simple obeisty by observing the changes of body weight,BMI,waist circumference, hip circumference,waist-to-hip ratio,triglyceride,cholesterol,high-density lipoprotein,low-density lipoprotein and blood glucose, and also provide better evidence for the clinical promotion and applicaiton of acupoint embedding intervention for simple obesity. Methods:We conducted a randomized,single-blind and placebo-controlled trial in this study.84 outpatients and wards with overweight or simple obesity were recruited from Longhua hospital(the affilitaed hospital of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine). They were randomly divided 42 cases into the two gruops, including control gruop(placebo acupoint embedding gruop)and treatment gruop(acupoint embedding gruop). The intervention was conducted once every 10 days for a total of 3 months and then followed up for 3 months. The changes of body weight,BMI,waist circumference, hip circumference,waist-to-hip ratio,triglyceride,cholesterol,high-density lipoprotein,low-density lipoprotein and blood glucose were observed before and after treatment.Results:1.A total of 84 patients were enrolled in the study, including 42 in the control group(19 males and 23 females)and 42 in the experimental group(14 males and 28 females).Among them, the control group completed 40 trials,2 patients(2 males)were dropped out,the completion rate was 95.24%;the experimental group completed 39 trials,2 patients(2 females)were dropped out,the completion rate was 92.86%.2.There was no significant difference in age and gender distribution between the two groups(P>0.05),which was comparable. Before the intervention, there was no significant difference in body weight,BMI,waist circumference, hip circumference,waist-to-hip ratio,triglyceride,cholesterol,high-density lipoprotein,low-density lipoprotein, and blood glucose between the two groups(P>0.05),which was comparable.3.After the 9 times intervention for 3 months,we use the method of full analysis set to analyze the data. There were significant differences in body weight,BMI,waist circumference, hip circumference, triglyceride and cholesterol before and after treatment in the control group(P<0.05)in control gruop. There were significant differences in body weight,BMI,waist circumference, hip circumference and waist-to-hip ratio before and after treatment(P<0.05)in treatment gruop. Also,we found there was a significant difference in body weight,BMI,waist circumference and triglyceride between the two groups(p<0.05).The treatment group was better than the control group, which can indicate that the acupoint embedding can reduce the body weight,BMI,waist circumference,waist-to-hip ratio and triglyceride of obese patients superiorly.4.There were no serious adverse events in the two groups during the treatment and the follow-up period. One adverse event occurred in the experimental group during the intervention, but the symptoms were relieved and disappeared after symptomatic treatment, and there was no obvious discomfort during the follow-up period. Conclusions:After 3 months of therapy and 3 months of follow-up,we found that acupoint embedding can effectively reduce body weight,BMI,waist circumference,waist-to-hip ratio and triglyceride in patients with simple obesity or overweight than placebo acupoint embedding. And no obvious adverse reaction was occurred. We can verifiy that acupoint embedding is a safe and effective measure for the treatment of simple obesity and overweight.
