[Objective]Patients with insomnia due to heart and spleen deficiency were chosen as research subjects. The patients were divided into two groups, and were treated using abdominal acupuncture and conventional acupuncture respectively. The clinical efficacy of abd ominal acupuncture and traditional acupuncture in the treatment of patients was compared to identify a more optimized and effective treatment plan for patients with insomnia due to heart and spleen deficiency.[Methods]A total of 60 patients diagnosed with insomnia of heart and spleen deficiency are included in this study. All patients met the diagnostic criteria of both Western and Chinese Medicine for insomnia, and were screened for exclusion criteria.Throughout the study, there were 2 dropouts per group.Hence, only the results of the remaining 56 patients, with 28 patients per group, were included in the study. For the treatment,a cupuncture was performed 3 times a week for total of 4 weeks, with the duration of 30 minutes per session. The Pittsburgh sleep quality scale(PSQI),Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS),Insomnia TCM Syndrome Integral Scale were used in this study to evaluate the clinical efficacy of abdominal acupuncture on insomnia patients with deficiency of both heart and spleen..The scores were recorded before treatment and after the end of the treatment and the data collected were an alyzed using SPSS25.0,with P<0.05 showing that there is significant difference in the results obtained.[Results]1.Overall PSQI score:After treatment, there were significant differences between the treatment group(abdominal acupuncture)and control group(conventional acupunc ture)(P<0.05).Hence,for the treatment of insomnia, abdominal acupuncture is better than conventional acupuncture in improving sleep quality.2.Overall effectiveness:The overall effective rate was 85.8%in the treatment group and 71.5%in the control group. There were no statistical differences between the two group(P>0.05).This shows that both methods are effective in the treatment of insomnia caused by heart and spleen deficiency.3.The Insomnia TCM Syndrome Integral Scale score:After treatment, there were significant differences between treatment group and control group(P<0.05).Hence,this shows that abdominal acupuncture is more effective in improving insomnia symptoms as compared to conventional acupuncture.4.Analysis of PSQI dimensions:There were significant differences in the subjective sleep quality scores, sleep time scores, sleep efficiency scores, and sleep disturbance scores between the two groups before and after treatment(P<0.05).However,there were no statistical differencesin the subjective sleep duration scores and daytime dysf unction scores between the two groups(P>0.05).5.Comparison of SAS scores:There were significant differences between the two groups before and after treatment(P<0.05).6.Comparison of SDS scores:There were no statistical differences between the two groups(P>0.05).[Conclusion]1.For insomnia patients with heart and spleen deficiency, both treatment methods, conventional acupuncture and abdominal acupuncture, have good clinical effects.Post-treatment comparison of total PSQI scores shows 'significant differences between the tr eatment group(abdominal acupuncture)and control group(conventional acupuncture)(P<0.05).Hence,the treatment group shows a greater overall improvement in insomnia compared to the control group.2.For treatment effectiveness, the total effective rate was 85.8% in the treatment group and 71.5% in the control group. There were no statistical differences between the effectiveness of the method used by each group(P>0.05).This shows that both methods are effective in the treatment of insomnia caused by heart and spleen deficiency.3.Abdominal acupuncture can significantly improve sleep quality, sleep time, sleep efficiency and sleep disturbance in insomnia patients with heart and spleen deficiency.Patients treated using abdominal acupuncture also shown a greater improvement in TCM syndromes and SAS scores as compared to patient treated using conventional acupuncture.4.There were no significant differences in the sleep duration, daytime dysfunction and SDS of both groups(P>0.05).Both methods are effective in improving the sleep duration, daytime dysfunction and SDS scores.
