Purpose:To systematically investigate and analyze the diabetes mellitus self-care ability and negative emotion level of the older people, and to explore the relationship between diabetes self-care ability and negative emotion of older people with diabetes mellitus. To analyze the influencing factors of the diabetes self-care ability of older people with diabetes mellitus, aiming to provide a reference for clinical medical staff or caregivers to formulate corresponding measures, alleviate the bad mood of patients, and ultimately improve the clinical outcome of patients.Material and method:The convenience sampling method was used to select 298 in-patient older people with diabetes mellitus in the endocrinology department of a third-level general hospital in Liaoning Province from March to August in 2019.The questionnaire composed of SDSCA and diabetes questionnaire(PAID)measures the demographic variables,self-care ability, and negative emotions of the study subjects.SPSS 25.0 statistical software was used to analyze the data: the patient's general situation,self-care ability, total negative emotion scores and scores in each dimension were described using descriptive analysis;the differences in demographic characteristics of self-care ability and negative emotions were measured using two Independent sample t-test or one-way analysis of variance was used for analysis;Pearson bivariate correlation analysis was used for the relationship between diabetes self-care ability and negative emotions;stepwise regression of canonical correlation analysis was used to analyze the factors affecting self-care ability.Results:1.The total score of self-care of older people with diabetes mellitus was 66.38 ± 5.61,and the score index was 51.03.The scoring indicators of the items in each dimension from high to low are: medication management(82.19),exercise(56.22),diet(49.21),abnormal blood glucose management(47.62),foot self-care(41.57),and blood glucose monitoring(40.79).2.The total negative emotional score of older people with diabetes mellitus is 35.48 ± 6.54,and the scores of each dimension from high to low are: therapeutic factor(2.31 ± 0.48),diet factor(1.83 ± 0.43),emotional factor(1.64 ± 0.45),and society Supporting sense factor(1.45± 0.46).3.There is a negative correlation between self-care and negative emotion in older people with diabetes mellitus.4.Analysis of factors related to the self-care ability of older people with diabetes mellitus:therapeutic factors, emotional factors, monthly retirement income, and course of disease, among which the therapeutic factors have the greatest influence.Conclusion:1.The overall self-care level of middle-aged and elderly diabetes mellitus in this study is poor.Age,living status, education level, monthly retirement income, payment method of medical expenses, course of disease, medication, and whether there are complications are demographic characteristics that affect self-care ability factor.2.The overall negative emotions of middle-aged and elderly diabetes mellitus in this study are at a medium level, and the negative emotions related to disease treatment are the most obvious.3.The self-care ability of middle-aged and elderly patients with diabetes mellitus was negatively correlated with negative emotions.4.The self-care ability of older people with diabetes mellitus is negatively correlated with treatment factors and emotional factors, and positively correlated with monthly retirement income and disease duration.
