Aims:This study aims to explore the relationship between sedentary time, alcohol consumption and the diabetes mellitus prevalence of middle-aged and elderly people, and further investigate whether there is a dose-response relationship, which may provide clinical basis for preventing diabetes mellitus at an early time.We employ questionnaires about living habits and we carry out examinations of physical conditions of these people,to seek the epidemiological characteristics of diabetes mellitus in middle-aged and elderly people, which we make an analysis on the relationship between factors, such as the time of sedentary behavior, the consumption of alcohol, and the prevalence of diabetes mellitus. Methods:According to the prevalence of diabetes,we calculate the minimum required sample size, and then we conduct a questionnaire survey and physical examination for a total of 3,000 middle-aged and elderly people(?45 years old),who are selected randomly in four cities and towns, including Henan Jiyuan,Zhejiang Jinhua,Anhui Huainan and Hubei Yangxin. After that,we have collected 3000 pieces of the questionnaire, which mainly include the basic information, habits, illness and disease family history of the subjects. The result of physical examination mainly includes specific information about the subjects' height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, blood pressure and heart rate, basal metabolism and other indicators. In order to ensure the success of this study, before this process,we set up a working group;unify laboratory equipment and test standards. Then,we explain the purpose and process of this study to subjects. After that,we carry out the questionnaire survey and physical examination, establish the database of relevant data and finally verify the results,to ensure the result accuracy.Especially,we employ the software of SPSS21.0 and Statal2.0 to analyze the data.Results:1.The total number of this survey is 3000,of which 2932 are valid, and the effective rate is 97.73%,including 1327 questionnaires from males and 1605 from females, with a ratio of 0.82:1.The overall prevalence is 12.86%,and the prevalence of male is 15.14%and female 10.97%,signifying that prevalence of male is slightly higher than that of female(p=0.0001).2.The logistic regression analysis shows that the diabetes risk of people whose sedentary time is within 2-4h,4-6h,6-8h and above 8h is respectively 1.617(95%CI,0.762-1.789,P=0.003),1.235(95%CI,0.818-1.865,P=0.034),3.420(95%CI,2.241-5.218,P=0.000)and 5.014(95%CI,3.049-8.247,P=0.000).With the increase in sedentary time, the prevalence of diabetes also increases significantly.Logistic regression analysis also shows that compared with the non-drinking group, the diabetes risk of "less drinking" group, the "much drinking" group and the"more drinking" group OR is respectively 0.793(95%CI,0.499-1.260,P=0.326),2.160(95%CI,1.214-3.842,P=0.009),2.730(95%CI,1.851-4.027,P=0.000)?3.According to the result of Dode-response,there is a significant relationship between sedentary time and diabetes prevalence, and with each additional one-hour sedentariness the risk of diabetes increases by 23%(OR1.23,95%CI 1.18-1.29,p<0.0001).There is also a significant relationship between alcohol consumption and diabetes prevalence, and with alcohol consumption increasing by lOg per day,the risk of diabetes increases by 17%(OR1.17,95%CI 1.11-1.25,p<0.0001).Conclusion:1.Analysis shows that in all the surveyed people, the prevalence of diabetes is 12.86%,higher than the national prevalence rate in 2012(11.6%).It also shows that the prevalence of males is higher than that of females and the peak age of diabetes is after about 55 years old.2.The sedentary behavior is an independent risk factor for diabetes. The prevalence of diabetes is gradually increasing with the increase of sedentary time, with each additional one-hour sedentariness, the risk of diabetes increasing by 23%,which indicates the longer sedentary time, the higher prevalence of diabetes.3.High alcohol consumption is also the risk factor for diabetes. While this research suggests that small amounts of alcohol consumption can reduce the prevalence, but the overall trend is diabetes prevalence increases with the increase of alcohol consumption, with alcohol consumption increasing by lOg per day,the risk of diabetes increasing by 17%.4.The middle-aged and elderly people should drink moderately, exercise actively, reduce sedentary time and cultivate good habits,to reduce the risk of diabetes.
