ObjectiveThis randomized controlled study aims to compare the therapeutic effect of cetirizine hydrochloride and press-needle to treat persistent allergic rhinitis, analysis and evaluate the effectiveness and security of press-needle,evaluate the improvement in quality of life in patients with AR.In order to promote the use of press-needle to treate allergic rhinitis as a safe, effective, simple and easy to operate treatment.Method66patients with moderate to severe persistent allergic rhinitis who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into two groups. The treatment group(the press-needle group):adopt the method of press-needle treatment,9 points were selected in each treatment, namely, yintang, yingxiang, fengchi, feishu and hegu. After conventional disinfection,0.20mm×0.9mm press-needle of qingling brand(produced by Japan co.,LTD.)was affixed to the above points, retaining needle for 24 hours at each time, treated 3 times a week. The control group was given cetirizine hydrochloride tablets(10mg/tablet)orally,one tablet every night before going to bed.Set for four weeks as a course of treatment, and patients in both groups received one course of treatment. Both groups fill in the "four-point" symptom evaluation scale and VAS score every day in the four periods:1 week before the start of treatment(baseline),2th and 4th weeks during the treatment(treatment period),and 5th week after the end of treatment(follow-up period),to evaluate the severity of nasal and ocular symptoms on the day.Eventually, the average of each score for one week was taken for analysis. And on the seventh day of each period, both groups fill in the RQLQ(Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire,RQLQ)to evaluate the influence of nasal and eye symptoms on seven major parts of daily life, including main activities, sleep and emotion, etc. After treatment and follow-up,collate relevant data, establish Excel database, conduct statistical analysis by SPSS 21.0 statistical software,to compare the improvement degree of each symptom score before and after treatment by two different treatment methods.Result1.The "four-point" symptom evaluation scale,VAS score and RQLQ score of the treatment group and the control group after treatment were lower than that before treatment in this group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).There was no statistically significant difference in the total effective rate between the two groups after treatment(P>0.05),indicating that both press-needle and oral cetirizine hydrochloride tablets can play a good role in the treatment of AR.2.In the treatment group, the "four-point" symptom evaluation scale,VAS score and RQLQ score all showed a downward trend at the 5th week after the end of treatment compared with the 4th week of treatment in this group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).The RQLQ score in the control group at 5th week after treatment was not statistically significant(P>0.05),and the "four-point" symptom evaluation scale and VAS score were increased, with statistically significant differences(P<0.01).It is suggested that press-needle therapy is effective for AR,and the curative effect is relatively lasting. It can still improve the quality of life of AR patients after stopping the treatment. In contrast, patients in the control group showed a tendency of recurrence after discontinuation of drug treatment.3.The "four-point" symptom evaluation scale and RQLQ score of the treatment group and the control group during the treatment period(the 2th week of treatment and the 4th week of treatment)showed no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).At 5th week after the end of treatment, the "four-point" symptom evaluation scale,VAS score and RQLQ score between the two groups were statistically different(P<0.01),suggesting that the two groups had similar improvement in the clinical symptoms and quality of life of the patients during the treatment. However, after the end of press-needle treatment, the clinical symptoms of the treatment group still showed a trend of continuous improvement.4.No adverse events occurred during the study, and press-needle therapy was safe and effective.ConclusionIt is safe and effective to treat moderate-severe allergic rhinitis with press-needle.However,the clinical efficacy of press-needle in the later stage of treatment is better than that of the control group, and can continue to improve the clinical symptoms of patients after the end of treatment, the durability of the treatment is better than cetirizine hydrochloride tablets.
