Benzalkonium bromide iodine is a kind of new disinfectant compound, which combines the advantages of the halogen disinfector and quaternary ammonium salt disinfector. The advantages of quaternary ammonium salt include long-lasting,powerful and effective on killing bacteria microbes. The advantages of halogen include extremely powerful, fast effective and stronger on killing viral microbes, minimal toxicity and side effects. Therefore the combination was expected to reach the characteristics required for advanced disinfectant that is long-lasting,broad-spectrum and low-toxic.However the disinfectant compound has not been systematically investigated for the disinfection effect against bacteria, toxicological safety evaluation and stability. This experiment is to study the scope and methods to use this disinfectant practically. The experiments were performed following the clinical standard for the disinfectant. To measure the effect of the disinfectant against propagule of bacteria, bacterial spores and fungi,we performed the present project including qualitative and quantitative killing test, the influential factor study, mimic field disinfection test, practical field disinfection test, minimal bacteriostatic concentration test, and quantitative virus-killing.Moreover,to provide theoretical basis in the actual production,we made a evaluation of the safety and toxicology for specification and suitable application of the disinfectant. The results showed that:1.The suspension germicidal test results showed that the minimal effective concentration of benzalkonium bromide iodine(effective iodine content)to bacteria was 25mg/L and 5 min;while to bacterial spores and fungi 25mg/L and 15min respectively.2.Benzalkonium bromide iodine worked better on sterilization at a temperature of 20?and 30 ? than at 10 ?.The sterilization effect was decreased with the increased pH value. The sterilization effect was not affected too much by the concentration of the organic materials from 0%to 40%r in the environment.3.Benzalkonium bromide iodinesolution 25mg/L Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli from serial killing rats.4.Mimic field disinfection test results showed that using the lowest effective concentration(25 mg/L)of benzene tie bromine and iodine,99.9%of Escherichia coli was killed on the solid surface.Real field disinfection test showed that after one hour of disinfection with the minimal effective concentration(25mg/L)of benzene tie bromide iodine, the bacteria in the air of the chicken house was killed to 90%.5.Minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimal bactericidal concentration(MBC)tests were performed to detect the sensitivity of bacteria and fungi to benzalkonium bromide iodine. The results showed that the minimal effective bacteriostasis concentration of benzalkonium bromide iodine(effective iodine concentration)to six bacteria(Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,Pasteurella,Streptococcus,Bacillus cereus and Candida albicans)is 0.48-3.84 mg/L,minimal effective bactericidal concentration of iodine is 0.96-15.36 mg/L.
