The Symbolic Semantic Research And Design Application Of Su-style Furniture

Known as the precious intangible cultural heritage of the Chinese nation and a typical representative of Chinese traditional furniture,furniture with Suzhou characteristics is the perfect unity of function and aesthetics.It is the best way to inherit and develop the essence of furniture with Suzhou characteristics,therefore,it is necessary for us to use modern design theory to guide the practice of furniture design.Considering this,based on semiotics and product semantics,this thesis focuses on discussing the relationship between symbols and semantics of furniture with Suzhou characteristics,and the summarized method is used to guide the design of modern Chinese furniture.Firstly,the basic concepts and theoretical system of semiotics and product semantics are systematically introduced.Through the literature collection and the related data arrangement,the causes of furniture with Suzhou characteristics are discussed from natural environment,economy,humanities and handicraft etc.On this basis,this thesis puts forward the possibility of studying furniture with Suzhou characteristics by symbol theory,and analyzes its symbolic language form in detail including its form,structure,material and decoration.Secondly,this thesis analyzes the communication of product symbols of the furniture and people’s cognitive process from the perspective of information dissemination and then introduces the research method related to Emotion Engineering in product semantics.The semantic content of symbol the furniture with Suzhou characteristics is further interpreted from two aspects,denotative semantics and connotative semantics,which theoretically expounded the significance of symbolic semantic research in the research of the furniture with Suzhou characteristics.Thirdly,taking the shape of the most complex seat in furniture with Suzhou characteristics as an example,launch a research on the relationship between modeling symbols of furniture samples and user perceptual evaluation with qualitative and quantitative research both used.The results of the survey were analyzed with SPSS.The experimental results will be used to verify the reasonableness of the modern Chinese style furniture’s design method summarized.Using the method of morphological analysis with the semantic adjectives got from experiments,from the overall outline of the furniture form,the form elements and the form of the furniture,the thesis summed up the structural symbols and structural rules corresponding to furniture with Suzhou characteristics.Then from the aspects of social folklore,etiquette,aesthetic art and human nature,this th discusses the semantic causes of the furniture with Suzhou characteristics.At last,based on the research results above,establish the functional semantic and emotional symbolic semantic goals of the furniture design,try to establish the design rules associated with the furniture symbol and the semantics.And then sumed up the method of functional furniture design by means of symbol association,and the emotional furniture design method by means of symbolic representation,abstraction and reconstruction aiming at transferring the inner spirit of furniture.Finally verify the feasibility of the design rules and methods summarized by modern Chinese style furniture design practice.
