| Ming-style furniture is famous throughout the world with its highly unified aesthetic and functional design style.It is a valuable intangible cultural heritage of the Chinese nation.The Ming-style seats can mostly represent its artistic style.It has very important significance to inherit and develop excellent design culture of Ming-style furniture for the development of national furniture design.Product semantics originated from semiotics has been widely applied in the field of industrial design.This article will combined product semantics theory with Ming-style furniture study.It will analyses the semantic connotations of Ming-style seats based on product semantics and apply it into the design of modern Chinese seats design.The main work of this paper is as follows:(1) Reviews the origin,development,research content,application method of product semantics and the design process based on the product semantics angle.And analyses the meaning of the combination of modern Chinese seat design with product semantics theory.(2) Summarize the development of Chinese traditional seats and analyze the morphological characteristics and semantic features of the seats in various historical stages.Classify the Ming-style seats and summarize the shape characteristics of them.(3) The paper research the extensional semantics and the connotation semantics of Ming-style seats with semantic differential method,in which mainly through four aspects with material semantics, modeling semantic, adornment semantic and function semantic to analyze the extensional semantics and four aspects with the symbol semantic, cultural semantic, interesting semantic and caring semantic to analyze the connotation semantics.(4) It will apply the product semantics theory on the modern Chinese seats design.Put forward the design process,establish semantic repository,refine Ming-style seats semantic symbol and then convert the symbol semantics to form by applying the method of metaphor and reconstruction. |
