Impression management strategy refers to a series of strategies that people adopt in order to establish their own image in other people's minds.Ingratiation,self-promotion and some other impression management strategies have already been well studied.Modesty as an impression management strategy(Modesty in the following),is not the same as Trait Modesty,which is a personal character.Modesty,as an impression management strategy,refers to an individual's strategy,in order to create their own images in others' mind or in order to achieve the goal of creating a more harmonious interpersonal relationship,they deliberately underestimate their obvious achievements,strength and so on.In recent years,modesty began to gain more and more attentions,foreign scholars have studied the influence of Modesty on career success,the relationship between Modesty and employees' political skills and so on.However,in China,there are few localized studies on Modesty.On the basis of reviewing the relevant literatures,this study takes new employees(college students graduated within five years)as the research target.By reviewing theories of Impression Management Strategy,Modesty,Political Skill,Proactive Socialization Tactics and Career Success,according to the research aim,this study combines the existing literature with the actual Chinese situation to set the conceptual model and three groups of research hypotheses.Based on the authoritative scale of Modesty,Political Skill,Proactive Socialization Tactics and Subjective Career Success,the initial questionnaire has been designed and distributed to 30 alumni(graduated within five years)of International Business School,Beijing Foreign Studies University,then by analyzing the results,formal questionnaire has been formed.The formal questionnaire was distributed to the alumni of International Business School,Beijing Foreign Studies University who graduated within the past five years through online survey platform and received 252 results in total,the results shows that:(1)Modesty was positively correlated with new employees' Subjective Work Performance;(2)Interpersonal Influence,the second dimension of Political Skill,plays a moderating role in new employees'Modesty and Subjective Work Performance;(3)Feedback Seeking and General Socializing,these two dimensions of Proactive Socialization Tactics play a positive moderating role in new employees Modesty and Subjective Work Performance.
