As compound eye imaging system has the advantages of large field of view, small size and light weight in structure,it has received more and more attentions from researchers in the past few decades. The study on compound eyes has become one of the main research directions of optical imaging now,and the compound eye has found wide applications in fields including remote sense, target recognition, target velocity measurement and location. In this thesis,we propose a new type of multispectral compound eye imaging system based on the bionic compound eye structure characteristics of the insects in nature. The new system can realize the multispectral imaging function by using multiple spectral imaging apertures arranged on the curved surface. An optical imaging transformation subsystem is introduced to transform the primary curved image plane into a planar one so that the image can be received by the normal imaging sensor. The multispectral image of the target can be obtained by the following image processing and reconstructing steps. In this paper, the principle and design method of multi-spectral wide-field compound eye imaging system are theoretically discussed and analyzed, and a corresponding optical design model is established to guide the further work on the development of the prototype multispectral compound eye imaging system. The main research work is listed as follows,1.The advantages and disadvantages of the existing multispectral cameras are first reviewed, which leads to the necessity to develop the technology of the multispectral compound eye camera. In order to overcome the limitations of traditional multispectral cameras,we put forward a new type of multispectral imaging system based on the bionic compound eye.The theoretical model of the multispectral compound eye imaging system is derived and established.A cross-and-transfer multispectral imaging theory is proposed, which is realized by using many seven-wavebands subcompound eye units who shares different wavebands together in the whole field of view.Based on these theories, the design parameters for the multispectral compound eye imaging system can be determined.2.Based on above mentioned theories,a preliminary optical design for the multispectral compound eye imaging system is given. In the design, the multi-layer structure macro of ZEMAX software is taken to simulate the compound eye as well as the optical relay system. The compound eye consists of microlens array integrated with filter array which distributed on the curved plane to achieve an ultra-large field of view. The optical relay system aims to transform a curved focal plane into a planar focal plane to ease the image receiving. The designed multispectral compound eye camera has a field of view of 120°,and seven-wavebands with central wavelengths of 480 nm,550 nm,591 nm,676 nm,704 nm,740 nm,and 767 nm respectively. The new designed multispectral compound eye camera has a great potential as an airborne or satellite-born payload for remote sensing and thus paves a new way for the design of compact and light-weight spectral-imaging cameras. Moreover,in order to meet the requirements of the manufacture, the system is further optimized to achieve a total system focal length of 0.4 mm,F number of 4,and field of view of up to 138°.According to the ray tracing results, the imaging quality of the optimized system is good with the manufacturing tolerance introduced.
