Based on the unique structure characteristic and excellent optical performance, the artificial compound eye has drawn great interest of scientists. By extending the trantional one lens imaging system to several lenses imaging system, the imaging system was regenerated from mechanism. A series of new research points were brought and so many new phenomenons and functions were found out. Aiming at the big field of view imaging system, according to the design method, manufacture technology, and image processing technology, the detail research works have been carried out in this dissertation. The main research works are as follows:1. Firstly, the insect compound eye structure was observed deeply. After which the relationship between the compound eye structure parameters and the corresponding optical performance and imaging quality was analysed. An optical design method in three dimension(3D) was proposed which broke the traditional design method in one dimension. Finally, a design method based on curvature array artificial compound eye was presented by using which can realize all kinds of artificial compound eye.2. After designing the artificial compound eye, the fabrication of the three dimension curvature array imaging structure was researched and carried out. Precision preparation and advanced optical machining technology were used to accomplish the connection between the lenses and the supporting structure. After that, a fabrication technology based on three dimension imaging structure was presented which push the application of the artificial compound eye.3. The relationship between the field of view(FOV) of the single lens and the direction and the relationship between the FOV of the single lens and the whole FOV of the imaging structure have been analysed. An image processing technology in three dimension has been proposed, which can be used to realize the data amalgamation of the imaging results.4. After realizing of the above three key technology, the experiments of the imaging were carried out. The artificial compound eye with 37 lenses has been fabricated. The FOV of 118° was obtained in the experiments. The artificial compound eye can be used in all kinds of detecting equipments.
