The vigorous development of digital technologies such as virtual reality has profoundly changed the way of protection and dissemination of cultural heritage.At the same time,mobile devices offer users a new way to connect with the digital world.A wide of applications and services generated new development opportunity regarding to access to novel contents which related to the cultural sector.In this context,the virtual roaming system of the " Batu Hitam " Shipwreck aims to use virtual reality technology and mobile devices to actively explore the way of combination of technology and culture based on Android mobile.The " Batu Hitam " is a shipwreck of the Tang Dynasty and witnessed the glorious history of economic and cultural exchanges between the countries along Maritime Silk Road.The hull structure of the " Batu Hitam " is well preserved and the cargo on board is also in good condition,which provides valuable conditions for the study of maritime trade,archaeological history,material culture and art crafts.The artifacts on board include Tang Dynasty porcelain,gold and silver wares,glass,bronze mirror,silver ingot,etc.The majority of cargo is Changsha kiln.Changsha kiln pioneered the colorful technology under the glaze with rich textures,and thus occupied an important position in the history of ceramic development.As an export-oriented porcelain,Changsha Kiln fully absorbed foreign cultural elements and became the medium and messenger of cultural and economic exchanges in the Tang Dynasty.Through the cultural field of the "Batu Hitam" shipwreck,the virtual roaming system of the " Batu Hitam " Shipwreck aims to construct an interactive,immersive scene,to display the artifacts on the "Batu Hitam" shipwreck and related culture.Through photogrammetry technology and 3Ds Max modeling technology,the project digitally restored the "Batu Hitam" shipwreck and related artifacts,realized interactive functions such as virtual roaming and detailed display based on the Unity3 D development platform,and provided users with knowledge by video,audio and pictures.The project ultimately outputs an Android mobile application that realized a virtual roaming experience through a cheap Google Cardboard device for a wider range of users and spreads the culture of Batu Hitam.Through the reconstruction and development of the "Batu Hitam" shipwreck virtual roaming system,this paper explores series of technical problems and solutionsin model creation and optimization,scene construction and setup,interaction design and implementation,and system building.It mainly focuses on problems of carrying large models,optimizing system operation,and implementing diverse interactions the in Android mobile platform,which provides support for relevant practices and research.Through the true reconstruction of the historic sites,this system showed scenes and artifacts on "Batu Hitam" shipwreck,as well as related culture for the public.By combining popular mobile devices with inexpensive virtual reality devices,the system will provide a virtual reality experience for a wider range of users,further promoting the spread and protection of cultural heritage such as "Batu Hitam" and Changsha Kiln.
