A distributed network composed of a group of nodes with functions such as collecting data and transmitting data is called a wireless sensor network.Wireless sensor networks are designed and widely used in agricultural monitoring, bridge monitoring, ocean monitoring, space exploration and other fields. The routing protocol is to ensure that nodes can effectively communicate in various scenarios where the network environment changes frequently. Therefore, its design must meet the characteristics of practical applications, including node configuration, deployment environment, and user requirements.Aiming at the problems of high data transmission delay in wireless sensor networks, this paper proposes a routing protocol optimized for data transmission delay. The protocol consists of a low-latency and high-reliability routing algorithm and a delay optimization strategy. The main content of this article is as follows:First, the related content of wireless sensor networks and their routing protocols are described, including the architecture, characteristics, and practical applications of wireless sensor networks. The characteristics and design principles of routing protocols are introduced. The current routing protocols are classified, analyzed, and summarized.Secondly,a low-latency and high-reliability routing algorithm is proposed. The algorithm first distinguishes the channel detection types of nodes based on the transmission results of the data packets, and uses a composite calculation of effective detection ratio and data transmission efficiency as a measure of the link quality between nodes. Then,by forwarding the link information of the best next hop node in the network,a data transmission path tree with a Sink node as the root is constructed. Finally,a differential update method suitable for the candidate routing node table and a local update strategy suitable for the path tree are proposed.Third,a delay optimization strategy is proposed. The strategy first calculates the value of the data transmission delay during the forwarding process that is affected by the environment according to the actual transmission time and the theoretical transmission time of the data packet, and calculates the queuing delay by combining the number of data packets in the buffer queue.Threshold, divides time into three consecutive intervals, and uses different criteria for nodes with queuing delays in different intervals to judge their ability to receive data packets. The criterion considers thresholds, link quality between nodes, and queuing delay. For the previous-hop node of the node that is difficult to undertake the data forwarding task,it is necessary to reselect the routing node. Finally,OMNeT ++ simulation platform is used to experiment the protocol proposed in this paper. The results show that the protocol proposed in this paper performs well in reducing end-to-end delay and improving transmission reliability.
