Virtual reality(VR) technology, which is also known as virtual technology or artificial environment, is a new advanced technology these years. VR is a combination of a variety of information technology, including three-dimensional display technology, 3D computer graphics technology and network transmission technology, etc. The application of virtual reality technology in tourism brought a fundamental change to the traditional tourism as it has expanded the service mode, service contents and service range of tourism industry in the future. The virtual tour research has great meaning to promote the development of Chinese tourism.Based on a survey of documents, case studies, comparative study, and so on, this dissertation presents a comprehensive investigation of the technology of VR in the infrastructure of virtual roaming system, including the application foundation, the necessity and possibilities for application, as well as composition and implementation of VR system. Finally put forward a feasible development plan of virtual roaming. The Lanzhou Huanghe scenery is the prototype. 3DS MAX and VR-Platform technology are used to build a virtual tour system with independent roaming and advertising function. This thesis achieves a multi-faceted, multi-angle, multi-media presentation of the Huanghe scenery. It has a certain advancement to the Lanzhou Huanghe scenery tourist attractions propaganda, the display and the entire Lanzhou City digitization construction. The target is that how to use the panoramic virtual roaming technology to maximize the display of the main attractions of the Lanzhou Huanghe scenery. The main contents of the thesis are as follows:(1)Through the early research of virtual reality technology, the modeling and interactive tool of the Huanghe scenery virtual roaming system implementation is determined. Mean while, the design of the structure and the functions of virtual roaming system is completed.(2)Searching correlated information of the scenic spot through the network and shooting scenic attractions photos, establishing the scenic spot in each scenic spot database, provide the basis for the later stage model manufacture.(3) According to the collected information, the scenic spot is divided into building model and sculpture model. Different modeling methods are chosen for different models, and then 3DS MAX is used to complete the scene modeling.(4) The virtual reality editor of the 3D virtual scene is realized by VR-Platform virtual reality editor to achieve the man-machine interactive function. The roaming and propaganda function of the virtual system is studied deeply.
