The in-plane switching?IPS?liquid crystal display is widely used in high-end fields such as mobile phones,computers and car displays due to its advantages of wide viewing angle,high contrast and compressive resistance.In recent years,viewing angle controllable liquid crystal display?LCD?is a hot topic because it can realize the change of wide viewing angle and narrow viewing angle,and this LCD can not only share information but also protect personal privacy in public.Therefore,this paper propose two kinds of viewing angle controllable IPS LCD by using the bias voltage method.The first type of viewing angle controllable FFS-VA LCD has high transmittance?95%?in wide and narrow viewing angle mode by etching on the pixel electrode and specific compensation method.With the increasing bias voltage on the Common-T electrode,the viewing angle cone with contrast ratio more than 10:1 changed from all viewing angle to 35°.The liquid crystal display has a higher transmittance and the viewing angle is more narrow in NVA mode than the conventional viewing angle controllable PVA-LCD proposed in the past,and faster response speed than that of the traditional FFS mode.In addition,the size of the hole on the pixel electrode is optimized.The second type of viewing angle controllable LCD has three-terminal electrode structure.Compared with the above liquid crystal display,the viewing angle is wider and more uniform in wide viewing angle mode,and the viewing angle cone with contrast ratio more than 1000:1 is extended to 60°.In addition,the transmittance is almost coincide in wide and narrow viewing angle mode,so the single gamma drive can be realized,high contrast and other properties are maintained while the continuous viewing angle is controlled.In addition,the structure and parameters of the in-plane switching LCD are optimized to improve the response speed.In order to achieve fast response,the larger rubbing angle and liquid crystal material with larger k22 value should be chosen.A larger rubbing angle has more advantages on choosing liquid crystal material relative to a small rubbing angle.This has a strong guiding significance to achieve fast response liquid crystal displays in the future.
