With the rapid development of the Internet and information technology,the traditional paper-based academic publishing whose single,static and independent characteristics aggravate the cognitive load that people need in the process of reading scientific papers cannot meet the needs of people to change reading media and acquire knowledge efficiently in the digital age.As a kind of semantic publication,enhanced publications can help users quickly acquire and understand information and realize knowledge exchange and sharing.The external semantic enhancement of the document content can enrich the content and knowledge of scientific papers and meet the needs of users to quickly acquire knowledge and trace content.At present,the research on enhanced publications mainly focuses on the perspective of developers and designers.It has not been found that the impact of semantic enhancement environment on cognitive load and reading effect is studied from the perspective of user cognitive psychology.For these reasons,the paper is guided by cognitive load theory and constructivism theory,builds an experimental platform,constructs a semantic enhancement environment,simulates the reading situation of scientific papers,uses the ways of experiment,questionnaire,interview and other research methods,gives a profound analysis about the characteristics of users' cognitive load and reading effect under the external semantic enhancement environment.Through analysis,this paper finds that(1)the effects of the text environment on the cognitive load of users reading scientific papers is significant,the external semantic enhancement environment will reduce the cognitive load of users;(2)There is no significant difference in cognitive load between users with different educational background in the external semantic enhancement environment;(3)text environment has a significant impact on users' reading effect of reading scientific papers,and external semantic enhancement environment can effectively improve the effects of the reading;(4)the external semantic enhancement environment is conducive to the user to understand the micro-structure problem;(5)There are differences in the reading effect of users with different educational background in the external semantic enhancement environment,and the reading effect of Postgraduates in the external semantic enhancement environment is better than undergraduates,as well as better than that of plain text environment.At the same time,this paper summarizes the individual differences and the differences of textual structure understanding of scientific papers reading by users under the external semantic enhancement environment.Finally,based on the user experiment of external semantic enhancement of scientific papers,this paper confirms the research hypothesis and puts forward corresponding suggestions for enhanced publishing design.Through the research and analysis of the cognitive load and reading effect of users' reading scientific papers under the external semantic enhancement environment,this paper deepens the understanding of users' cognitive model,supplements and improves the basic theory of users' cognition in the field of semantic publishing,meets the needs of users for knowledge expansion and content traceability in the process of reading scientific papers,provide scientific and reasonable design suggestions for the development and design of enhanced publications,and realize the value added of scientific papers in the publishing process.
