Historical Perspective:The Rheology,Definition And Imaginary Space Of The Concept Of MEME

The historical perspective has special significance for theoretical research,especially when the fuzziness of the core concept itself causes difficulties in the study.Domestic meme research is in the ascendant,and meme as a term has also been used for Internet culture research.On the other hand,the research around the concept of meme is relatively thin,which results in the use of MIHM in different usage,and has always been accompanied by basic theoretical controversy.This paper holds that the concept and theory of meme,which originated in western Evolutionary Biology,have undergone significant drift in different problem domains after many " changes ".By translating the problem of "what is meme" into the problem of "the use of MIHM",this paper finds that some scholars in the study of network MIHM abroad have reconstructed the concept of meme in the study of traditional MIHM theory based on the background of digital culture and Internet.The essence of this reconstruction is to shift from the answer to cultural evolution to the study of practice-oriented culture.Echoing this,classical meme theorists such as Susan Black Moore,whose intention is to construct a comprehensive theory of human evolution based on meme,that culture is evolutionary,and that cultural evolution stems from the evolution of information,and that scholars with the intention of information diffusion research are studying the evolutionary model of information(culture).Studying the difference of purport has branded the concept of meme(theory)as its own.Under the background of Internet,a reconstructed meme concept no longer strictly follows the ontological commitment of the classical meme theory,and its value will be more reflected in focusing on the internet phenomenon,so that the analysis based on the new communication behavior can become possible potential.In short,from the evolution of information-based culture,the evolutionary model of information,to the exploration of meme's cultural connotations,if meme concept is "now more closely related to communication research",then the concept of meme here refers to a more precise definition of a complex set of operational symbols propagated by imitation.This redefinition has a guiding role in the study of meme in the context of digital culture,although attention needs to be paid to distinguishing it from traditional meme studies.
