53 newspapers has wound up their business in 2018,which is at twice the rate of last year.Especially in the New Year day of 2019,More than a dozen newspaper offices announced that they ceased publication from now.People in academic and industry research areas published speech and made comments about this phenomenon,which is considered to be crisis of journalism.With the development of Internet,Everyone owned power of public expression in public,so the readers also make comments about demise of newspaper.Because of a lot of discussion by journalists and readers,so this is a perfect chance to make the diagnosis of journalism.The research about journalism in crisis has been the hot subject these years,but most scholars put the blame on the raising of new technologies and the economic changes.However,some researchers think that it is not enough to explain this crisis of journalism.In this way,it is important to consider the cultural significance of journalism when journalism is facing challenges.Therefore,the study investigated the industry of journalism from the perspective of the news culture.The focus of the research includes:the current development of the industry of journalism?How journalists construct themselves in their career and what are the ways of this construction?What are the cultural meanings of the construction by different roles in the news industry?At the same time,the thesis will try to find out the"challenge" and "opportunities" of current journalism from the cultural significance of the discourse.Metajournalistic discourse as a research method is put forward by Carlson,which is the research method of the thesis.And the research object of this article is discourse about talking the vanishing of newspaper by journalists and readers.According to the preliminary analysis of the collected discourses from three types of role s including news publishers,journalists and the general readers,this thesis attempts to explore how the three types of people express their concerns about the demise of newspa pers from three aspects:their respective interpretation of the reasons for the demise of ne wspapers,their attitudes towards the event of the demising newspapers and how they defi ne the function of journalism.The results based on a comparative study show the discour se of the three types of people demonstrates a generally similar pattern and only varies in their specific emphasis on the event.To be specific,the pattern of the discourse is characterized by a fusion of consensus and differentiation.In terms of the consensus,all thought that the difficult situation for the newspapers was caused mainly by the techni que reason.Journalists and readers expressed their great concerns about the high homoge nous content and massive advertising texts of the newspaper.Additioally,journalists and readers also criticize the lack of the surveillance of the media.For the differentiation,journalists tended to regard the demise of the newspaper as a crisis in the news industry,while the readers viewed this demise as a normal event.In terms of the function of the traditional media such as ''people is the first",''the principle of reporting objectively" and ''communicating valuable information",journalist focuse d on the dropping and insisting of these good virtues of the media functions.Some journa lists thought the newspaper have exhibited these virtues,but the readers have expressed t heir doubts on that.
