News Discourse Research On Depression Reported By Sina.com

With the quick march of social rhythm,the emerging pressure from all aspects makes the word "depression disorder" appear frequently in people's life.Although depression has been mentioned more frequently,people do not know it deeply,the rate of correct recognition and treatment of depression disorder in our country is still low.As an important channel for people to obtain information related to depression disorder,mass media has a significant impact on public cognition,attitudes and behaviors.As a type of mental illness,the existence of depression in social life often goes beyond the original meaning of physiological level and is endowed with connotations and metaphors from culture,morality,politics and other aspects.Therefore,it is necessary to explore the discourse of depression presented by the media.Taking sina.com,one of the first four major portals established in China,as the research object,starting from the perspective of discourse analysis,comprehensively applying the discourse analysis theory and framework of Fairclough and Van Dick,and based on the three dimensions of text,discourse practice and social practice,this paper studies the news discourse on depression reported by sina.com,explores the process from description to interpretation of the discourse on depression,and explores the multiple influencing factors including ideology and power relations in discourse construction,so as to provide reference for the discourse research on the topic of depression on network media.The analysis of the text dimension is carried out from the topic distribution of news discourse,news schema,wording style and rhetoric.The research finds that Sina.com is more biased towards individual case reports in the presentation of depression reports;it basically follows the convention in content construction.The news schema structure has its own characteristics at the same time;its wording style of news discourse reflects obvious emotional tendency,and adopts a variety of rhetorical methods to achieve its persuasion function.From the perspective of explicit intertextuality and constructive intertextuality,this paper studies the discourse practice of the topic of depression on sina.com,and explains how the internal parts of the discourse text are connected and how the text and social context are connected.It is found that the sina.com depression report highlights the medical and elite discourse in explicit discourse references,but the discourse of depressed patients is missing in discourse descriptions.In the intertextual references to obscure constructions such as social conventions,the use of "killer" and "demon" as the prototypes of depression on the one hand quickly aroused the public's awareness of depression,but at the same time led to the public's fear and resistance to depression.From the perspective of social practice,the depression report on sina.com is placed in the social context to discuss the power operation and ideological factors affecting its news discourse.It is found that the media reports on the casualties of depression remain on the surface and thus do not carry out in-depth analysis of the event behind the influence of power;The economic attribute of the media makes the media often appear the color of novelty and entertainment in the report of depression,while the metaphor of depression in Chinese culture makes sina.com go to the two extremes of stigma and beautification in the report of depression.Finally,due to the health communication attribute of the topic of depression,the deficiencies of sina.com's depression report discourse were examined from the perspective of health communication,including the alienation of the image of depressed patients,the violation of ethical principles in the presentation of suicidal information,and the irregular transmission of depression health information.The topic of depression is a social issue closely related to public health,and the dissemination of relevant information has an important impact on the public health life.Therefore,the mass media should try to avoid various non-standard behaviors in the construction of depression discourse,so as not to deepen the public stereotype and prejudice on depression and bring secondary harm to the depressed group.
