Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition(SCADA)system, also known as the data acquisition, monitoring, and control system,is a computer-centered master system. It uses on-site sensors for field data acquisition, transmission, monitoring control, and process control. It is widely used in smart city building, environmental protection, and modern industries such as water, electricity, oil, and gas utilities. It is a key technology for the automation of production and management. In the traditional SCADA system for gas industry, remote data acquisition terminals and sensors, actuators and other equipment are mainly connected through the field-bus.There are many issues with this traditional wired connection method, such as high cable cost, high power consumption, poor mobility, low energy efficiency, and poor manual performance. To solve these problems,a SCADA system for gas industry based on the traditional structure is proposed in this paper. The system adopts the hierarchical construction mechanism of the Internet-of-Things(Io T),including the perception layer, network layer, and application layer.Firstly, focusing on the structural characters and realization of each layer of the gas SCADA system, the paper studies key technologies of the Io T and SCADA system. Then,a three-tier architecture of the gas SCADA system based on Io T is proposed, and its core equipment and the realization of each layer of the system are discussed in detail. Finally, the paper presents both the software and hardware design and implementation of the core equipment in the sensing, network, and application layers. In the hardware aspect,a modular, interface, and standardized design concept is adopted, which ensures the compatibility of transmission protocols and solves the slow video transmission issue. In the software aspect,a configurable program is designed with a monitoring interface, which enables real-time database connection and several other features including system communication, alarming, configuration, graphics screen, and video transmission. The features are validated through system testing and on-site debugging. At present, the system has been widely used in SCADA applications such as gas and water supplies. The result shows that the design and implementation method proposed by this paper is feasible and achieves its intended purpose. This provides the theoretical and technical basis showing that the integration of information collection and utilization can be widely used in the gas industry.
