In recent years, with the strongly development of the wireless telecommunications industry and the communication capacity increasing,the antenna frequency band has developed gradually from the low frequency to the high frequency. Currently, the Ku, K, Ka bands are getting to more and more crowded. Therefore, the design of millimeter wave and sub-millimeter wave antenna is becoming the growing trend of antenna design. With thevigorously developing of the miniaturization and the digitized of T/R module, the application range of solid state active phased array antenna has getted more and more widely using. In addition to considering the cost, the most advanced fighter plane in the world has all used the form of solid-state active phased array antenna forms. Moreover satellite antenna has gradually adopted active phased array forms, too. Therefore, design and research of the millimeter-wave-band solid-state active phased array antenna elements and array are becoming a trend of the antenna development.The main works of this treatise are summarized as follows:1. We introduce the basic theoretical knowledge of the microstrip line and microstrip antennas,as well as three basic theoretical and analytical methods of the microstrip antenna.Finally the basic methods of wideband, multi-frequency and circular polarization technologies of the microstrip antenna are analyzed.2. We introduces the basic theory of array antenna, including both of linear and planar array's bandwidth, pattern, beam width and other basic theory knowledge as well as the options of the array element spacing in units and mutual coupling effects in the antenna units.3. We have designed three microstrip antennas which are suitable for millimeter wave band-using and radio communication: (1) A novel suppressing mutual coupling with the center frequency of 60GHz phased array antenna element; (2) A wide-band high-gain array Antenna Fed by Probe Tangent to the Patch; (3) A Ka-band high-gain broadband array antenna unit, and two antennas' 4×4 array has also been simulated.4. We have analyzed the structural characteristics of the probe tangent to patch the new ways feeding. Through a variety of different feeding structure simulation, we summed up this structure mathematical formulas, gives this structure the theoretical formula calculating methods.
