By the end of December 31,2017,there are 525 Confucius Institutes and 1113 Confucius Institute Classrooms around the world.In addition,UK has 29 Confucius Institutes which is the highest number of Confucius Institutes in Europe.The media at home and abroad will cover the opening ceremony of Confucius Institutes,language and culture activities,the mode of running schools and so on.This article analysis the coverage of the British media Confucius Institute with quantization and discourse analysis,and trying to show the attitude of the British media Confucius Institute reported.This article selects 7 UK Media's Coverage about the Confucius Institutes from 2004 to 2016,which are The Times,Financial Times,The Daily Telegraph,Daily Mirror,The Guardian,The Independent,The Sun,got 36 valid samples.And then analysis the coverages quantities,such as reported length,form,source,tendency etc.Other than that,this article also analyses on the news reports content through the discourse theories of Van Dijk to examine the discourse problem that might exist.Through the analysis found that the British media have paid less attention to Confucius Institutes,and the in-depth reporting needs to be improved in general.And the reports are mostly neutral and positive.On the other hand,the negative coverage of the British media Confucius Institute mostly focused on the "Confucius Institute funding" and "Chinese teachers",“teaching materials”,and “teaching methods”.In this kind of reports,may use implicit and not mentioned sources of information,metaphor and passive sentence.However,the exact source of the news was the most,epically from the UK.
