Study On Russian Media's Coverage About The Confucius Institutes

Learning Chinese has gradually become a trend in the international community,aiming to promote Chinese language learning all around the world,to enhance the influence of Chinese language and culture and to development friendly relations between China and other countries,since 2004 China began to set up Confucius Institutes.The subject of this study is very practical,because Russia and China's cooperative relations continue to develop.Russia and China are not only friendly neighbors,but also strategic partner countries.Russia is both a big country and China's largest neighboring country.China and Russia continue to develop political,economic and security relations,confirming the breadth and depth of cooperation in various fields between the two countries.There are many Russians who are learning Chinese,especially in the Far East Region.In 2006,Russia established the first Confucius Institute,and for the moment,Russia has already established 17 Confucius Institutes and 4 Confucius Classrooms.Quantitative content analysis and discourse analysis were used to study the Confucius Institute in Russian media in December 2006-June 2016.First,we analyze the quantity,time,theme and length of the Confucius Institute news reports,and then analyze the discourse from the aspects of title,numbers,quotations,words,positive and negative reports.Media coverage of the Confucius Institute news reports in Russia are completely different to those in Europe and in the United States,Confucius Institute in Russia did not encounter "closed",serious criticism and other issues,so in this paper we study news coverage from different perspectives.There are positive and negative reports in Russian media,after analyzing the background of these reports,we summed up Russian mainstream and local media coverage of Confucius Institute,its characteristics,trends and reasons.Confucius Institute news reports help to introduce China to the world,to spread Chinese culture and to form a good image of Confucius Institute and China.They also give relevant recommendations to the development of Russian Confucius Institutes themselves.This study focuses on the positive role of the Confucius Institute in the relationship between China and Russia.From this point of view,to understand the development of Confucius Institute in Russia and the public opinion environment,so as to in-depth the understanding of Confucius Institute and Sino-Russian international relations.
