The study first reviews the development of CDA,summarizes the research path of CDA,and reviews their respective advantages and disadvantages in the study of news discourse.Based on Norman Fairclough's Text —Discourse Practice— Society and Culture Practice framework, combined with Van Dijk's social cognitive approach,it attempts to summarize and improve the existing critical discourse analysis research framework, and classifies the categories of text analysis as potential and intersubjectivity. It also lists the research methods applicable to the study of news discourse, and finally takes the Taiwan-related reports published by the New York Times from March 1,2019 to March 1,2020 as a case to demonstrate critical discourse analysis in the specific application of news discourse. The text analysis shows that, generally speaking, the Taiwan-related reports of The New York Times uphold and adhere to news professionalism, but it also exposes the attitudes, tendencies, and positions of pro-Taiwan anti-China.Discourse analysis shows that the pyramidal power structure in the news production process has made the New York Times' report on Taiwan maintain a high degree of consistency in attitude, tendency, and stand as a whole.Social and cultural analysis shows that the New York Times' shareholding structure, interest adhesion, and the social class it represents and serve are the roots of the New York Times' attitudes, tendencies, and positions, while the analysis of cultural conflicts exposes the New York Times' report The prejudice against the mainland and Taiwan's pro-China faction shown in China is fundamentally the result of the US's outright denial and rejection of China's possibility of exploring non-European and American modernization paths.
