This paper takes the migrant workers in the Xintang Town of Zhengcheng District,Guangzhou as the object of this study, based on the relationship between media use and identity, this paper makes an investigation to understand the media use by migrant workers and the impacts of media use on their identity perception, social interaction and urban integration, and it was discussed that,in the time transition of inter-generational change, what kind of similarities and differences existed in the media use and identity recognition between the two generations of migrant workers. In this study, the author investigated the migrant workers in Xintang town by questionnaires and in-depth interviews, and it was found that the current population of migrant workers in China had a double rural and urban life,in the city, they were different from the ordinary citizens, but when back home,They were again different from the villagers staying behind in the villages as a result of their urban marking, and such a double edge in a double situation makes it difficult for their ego to be unified. But they were not embarrassed or uneasy as a result,on the contrary,in Xintang town, where the migrant workers were converged, they had their own social pattern and social practice. From the perspective of intergenerational view, the two generations of migrant workers had their own characteristics of media evaluation, social communication and expression.By Comprehensive questionnaires and interviews,it can be found that the portrayal of this group in the television and network media was more acceptable to the first generation of migrant workers and they were more certain about their own identity, among the interviewees, some identified themselves as peasant, while some identified as citizen;and the new generation mostly thought that such media can not fully depict them, they were also obscure about their identity. In the aspect of social media communication(mainly network social communication),the first generation of migrant workers mainly was focused on the formation of network social contact by bloodline, while the new generation relied more on the professional connection to form a network circle,on this basis,a unusual identity and group identity was formed. In the aspect of use of media to fight for their own rights and interests, the two generations of migrant workers were both relatively passive and negative about it,the transformation from the migrant workers into the citizenship by means of media empowerment was slow, which failed to promote the awareness of identity right of two generations of migrant workers. They are just like everyone in an information society, using their own media tools, their media practice is not only a kind of "media survival",but also a kind of "media symbolization" and "media shaping",in the process of consumption of media tools and contents, they constantly adjust and gradually determine their own social position and discourse expression.
