A Study On Migrant Workers' Identity With Mass Media's View

Migrant workers, is a heavy subject . For 20 years, they go through high-rise buildings in cities, but have never really been accepted. With the lapse of youth time,their future generations seem to still repeat their past load,and did not completely see the hope of complete escaping. Year after year they have to migrate helplessly,no more discrimination and accepted by the metropolitan culture are their expectation.But objectively speaking,Along with the changament of their designation ,from"the influx and wage earners to urban builders now,their living conditions are improved step by step. In the process of Improvement and progress, the media played a very important role. In modern society. the mass media's strength is extremely huge.On the overall situation of building a socialist harmonious society, carrying out a research into for 20 years the mass media's role and its influence in the process of migrant workers is very necessary and positive,and introspectin to the mass media has more immediate significance for their practice. This paper is focused here with taking sociolgy as a cross-cutting, from the point of view of journalism and communication. to explore the relationship between the mass media and migrant workers group identity.This paper is divided into three main parts :the first part : migrant workers,a special group with Chinese characteristics. Migrant workers are a special group under the influence of the urban-rural dual system. For 20 years their social status are changing, which reflects the progress of society. However, their survival situation is still not optimistic, they especially want to get"national treatment", from the current situation,This desire isn't excessive ,and a ray of hope has emerged, but it still has long way. Concerted efforts are needed.Second part : View farmers media groups. During the first part ,the author discussed the function of the mass media. Then the author selected four representative newspaper as a sample inspection including one party newspaper and three metropolitan newspaper, from three cities Beijing,Guangzhou and Zhengzhou,and the time is from 1980's January-March to 2006's January-March.And the four newspaper are People Dialy,Beijing Evening News, YangCheng Evening News and Dahe Daily. and the author divided the 26years into three stages, then statistical view of the mass media and then list what there is a group of migrant workers and what kind of state promote their identity in the process has really played what role.Third part : The mass media's influence analysis and reflection in migrant workers'identity. This is the key part of this paper. In this paper the author takes the data based on the results of the second part as the inspection.and reveals the vision of migrant workers and the general public comparison groups, analies the mass media's influence in promoting the process of migrant workers identity,and mainly has three aspects:reappearancetothemigrant workers,Counterproductive policy decision-making and the mass media amplifier;Then the author reconsider 20-year practice of the mass media and make three reflections:Lack voice of the migrant workers themselves, the selected point to report is too"mental handicapped"and the subject under discussion is"too superficial".It's hoped the mass media can draw lessons from the introspection to their practice.
