| "Civilian Culture" is commonly known as the common people's culture.It originates in civilian population itself,emphasizes the opposition to the upper class.It's democratic,honest and with strong color of daily life.It's opposed to the "elite culture",and often confused with "mass culture",especially in the media environment,often wisely exchanged by media institutions.Although "civilian culture" and "common culture" all point to the most social group,there is an essential difference between them.The attitude of the civilian population making by the clear profit-seeking attribution of "mass culture" is only a way to attract the audience,its ultimate purpose is to guide to the mass consumption.Under the guidance of mass culture,most of China's show who claim to provide service for the civilians,actually give up the pursuit of the meaning of culture,become a slave to the capital,in order to get the ratings and the advertising.Thus,the civilian image and the civilian culture presented by the "TV magic hands" are extremely one-sided and even distorted,which seriously deviate from the real culture.As one of the brand programs of Jiangxi satellite TV,Funniest Home Videos takes the interesting videos which happened in our daily life as the main content.Although it had never showed a earth-shattering performance on ratings,but it owned praise from many families who are always waiting for the show.Funniest Home Videos always sticks to the true expression of civilian culture,never fawn on common and blindly followed others.It uses humor to explain the joys and sorrows in life,pass the positive values,built a way that are worth learning in terms of development and expression of the civilian culture.The first part of this paper is the introduction,including literature review,research purpose and research methods and so on.In the second part,I defined the concept of populace based on Social Stratification theory,then analyzed the primary differences between civilian culture and mass culture from their origins,purposes and targeted crowds,trying to reveal the "deception" of mass culture.That's why it shows one-sided and distortion of civilian culture in entertainment program.After that,I combed the development process of civilian culture in Chinese entertainment programs,pointed out the illusoriness of civilian culture in the talent show and the foil role in reality show that combines stars and elements.At last,I summarized the existing problems of our country's civilian entertainment programs.The third part is the concrete analysis of Funniest Home Videos and a detailed interpretation on how it developed and expressed the civilian culture in entertainment program.The fourth part of the paper combined the previous discussion and gave suggestions from three aspects of media studies: audiences,texts and institutions in further. |
