Antenna technology is rapidly developing with the wake of developments in science and technology.Comparing with the single antenna,the properties of array antenna like anti-fading and high gain make it has wild applications in various telecommunication fields.Although the array antenna win high reputations,however,because of high integrations,some defects of array antenna also exposed out obviously.In studies,the elements would impact each other greater with the distance reduction.If the distance less than 0.5 wavelength,the mutual coupling will increase seriously.So it's hard to compress the space to make mutual coupling distance less than this half wavelength which defined as boundary that will never lower under the conditions of modern science and technology.On the above problem,the performance of array antenna would be very inefficient if it stack without any operations.In view of this serious issue,the minute research in the article shows the effects of EBG to the array antenna in detail.Three novel EBG structures based on studies of mutual coupling source were introduced,and all of them have evident effects for mutual coupling reductions.Some works of the article is summarized as follows:First of all,on the basis of former studies,analyzing the reason that the EBG structure inhibit the surface wave by the theories,and how the EBG could cause the electromagnetic band gap under solid physics theories.It's successful to design the explicit element distance as 0.13 wavelength which is advanced in the condition that the radiation edge is completely adjacent.This preliminary work give good guide for more compact telecommunication systems.Secondly,we improve the previous EBG system,and made the novel 2-D EBG structure design for restraining surface wave propagation and 23 db mutual coupling reduction successfully.This technology of coupling decreasing is with the advanced levels.Sum of all,mutual coupling was producing by two types of waves: surface wave and space wave.Under the EBG structure suppressing the surface wave,we designed two 3-D EBG structures antenna.The advantages of these 3-D antennas are not only focus on surface wave reduction,also could decrease 31 dB and 29 dB mutual coupling.The conclusion proved that the EBG structure have some suppression abilities with the space wave,too.
