The “7·5” incidence,happened in Urumqi,Xinjiang,posed severe threats to the security of the whole nation,society,people's lives and property.After the incidence,the foreign media came to the scene of the incidence and reported it in details.Especially the New York Times and the Washington Post,as the representatives of the America's major media,would never lose even one opportunity to make the negative and distorted reports in order to smear and defame China' image.Due to the sensitivity and complexity of the Xinjiang problem,America's major media seized the great opportunity to wantonly propagandize and report of this incidence,causing foreign people's misleading and certain negative effects about this incidence and the reality of Xinjiang,thus triggering the security threats in the field of discourse.Media,as the main bodies of the discourse,are sure to influence the audience and their influences can not be ignored.The language selection of the media coverage virtually affects the audience' information acceptance and understanding to an incidence.Media are important discourse subject of the security construction.Improper choices and misuses of the media discourse could easily cause the cognition misunderstanding,lead to identity crisis,trigger conflicts and make ordinary incidence upgrade to mass security events.In the reports about Xinjiang events,foreign media,especially the America's major media reports show to be negative and distorting.To some extent the demonizing coverage have been putting security threats to us.In responding to such a situation,this thesis,using the methods of text analysis and discourse analysis,mainly researches the Xinjiang “7·5”incidence reports of America's major media New York Times and Washington Post and analyzes the discourse characteristics of the America's reports about Xinjiang “7·5”incidence and the Xinjiang image created by them.And it also analyzes the discourse security threats and its influencing factors caused by America' major media coverage of the Xinjiang “7·5” incidence comprehensively.Then this thesis also puts forward the maintenance strategies to the security threats and provides references for solving the problems in China's international communications in order to hold morediscourse rights in international affairs and to promote China's international image.
