3D printing is commonly known as an additional manufacturing technology.The main difference between 3D printing and traditional cutting material technology is that the former is based on a digital processed 3D digital model file and the 3D solid model is printed by means of a process of layer manufacturing and superposition forming,using hot melt adhesive materials such as plastic wire,metal powder.The development of 3D printing technology has promoted the research of 3D printing in the field of computer graphics.Recent researches mainly focus on optimizing or adjusting a given geometric model to make it fit for the purpose of 3D printing,but there are few applications on 2D images about 3D printing.In this paper,we consider another problem by printing an input image using a 3D printer.Because 3D printer creates a great three-dimensional sense result than common printer.As we all know the 3D printer prints a lot of line segments,so we need produce an non-photorealistic 2D drawing which is visually similar to the original image.The main steps in this paper are as follows:First,the given image is decomposed into several sub-regions manually.The boundaries of each sub-region are extracted as the feature lines of the image.Then,we compute the vector field of the image.In this field,the direction of each point in,the vector field corresponds to the tangent direction of the point in the original image and the salient edge directions are preserved while weak edges are directed to follow the neighboring dominant ones.Finally,we track the vector field for each sub-region to get the streamlines and the streamlines are used for the line drawing of the image.Compared with other existing methods of line drawing,our results can better reflect the features and gray change of the original image.In addition,differen-t from ordinary printer,the results printed by 3D printer shows better artistic expression.In the future,our method can be applied to non-photorealistic ren-dering,painting,art manufacture and other fields.
