Analysis And Research Of College Students' Records Based On Decision Tree

Data mining technology is the product of a certain stage of development of the information technology.It has recently become the hot topic in the fields of computer science and engineering research.Data mining refers to the process of excavating those potential yet unknown information and knowledge hidden in huge database.Data mining technology has been obtaining remarkable achievements and successfully applied in many fields abroad while becoming more and more popular in our country though it is still not widely used in teaching.The technology can be used to strategically analyze huge amount of information,forecast future trends and hence make the most effective decisions.The university and college educational scales and numbers of students in universities and colleges have been increasing rapidly for the past ten years with the result that students' information management has become a serious challenge.Many universities and colleges have accumulating plenty of data concerning educational administration,most of which can not be explored and utilized well enough because the analytical technology is still subject to functions of primary statistics,back-up and searching without any further exploration.It is obvious that the traditional data management approach is not able to cope with the needs of modern education.How to efficiently manage the students' information is becoming a prevailing issue nowadays and data mining is one of the effective methods to deal with the problem.Decision tree is a main technology for data mining,categorizing and forecasting.By studying the categorizing function of data excavation,it compares the advantages and disadvantages of classic analytical methods and the unique pattern of Decision tree.This thesis researches fundamental theory and related algorithm of data mining and applies the decision tree technology to college student information management system.This thesis designs and implements a college students' records analytical processing system based on decision tree.Firstly,this system collects original data from the college student profile and pre-processes the source data.Secondly,this system generates decision tree model and estimates the categorizing rules by utilizing C4.5 algorithm.Lastly,this system uses Enterprise Miner platform to analyze and justify the researching results,thereby improving teaching method and acquiring learning situation.This system could provide more valuable information to practical terms in the classroom.
